This place has (rightly) a great reputation for the restaurant which was near faultless. The hotel's location at the top of the town overlooking the river takes some beating and is obviously a major feature. However, my advice is book a table here and a room elsewhere (say the nearby Chateau De Monrecour). Our room at the L'Esplanade was on the 2nd floor (no lift), pretty scruffy round the edges - wall paper peeling, water stains, old carpets along the corridors, very average bathroom, small window in the roof, but overlooking the river e.g. certainly not worth twice the price of anywhere else we stayed during our holiday. which included refurbished chateaux. The restaurant and the nearby wood paneled salon/drawing room however largely made up for the expensive and disappointing bedroom.
The very average breakfast was served by a rather blunt instrument the following morning. Again, I'd advise to skip breakfast here and take elsewhere in the very attractive village of Domme.More
