“Beautiful town, helpful owner”
Reviewed October 26, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We have stayed in La Martina for 4 days. The apartment is situated in the small village on the hill. The village is very authentic and there are many great views. Giussepe (the owner) gave us many tips for places to visit. The apartment itself is fully equipped. It has small balcony over the main street.
There is a lot of places to visit around - the main attractions are Taormina and Etna.
I would definitely recommend this place.

Motta Camastra you go back in time. A quiet village situated at 423 meters above sea level, with villagers which absorb you into their community. The apartment offers many features such as a well equipped kitchen and a washing machine, good beds and two TVs. You have a fantastic view of Mount Etna and a nice little balcony. However, you must have a car, but if the driving style of the Sicilians you do not like, you can ask at the bar if there is anyone who brings you a small fee to eg the beach. There's a butcher with such good meat and in the evening he sells kebab or chicken sandwiches with fries. On the square in front of the village It is pleasantly busy and are often given as festivals, like the nuts festival. There is even a barber, which gives you a good shave and is very welcoming. Guiseppe is a good host and has very good excursions arranged like to Mount Etna and Catania. You really feel welcome. You make good trips to theEtna, Catania, Taormina and Gole de Alcantara

“Lovely bolt hole in a lovely hillside village”

Thank you to Guiseppe and family for making this delightful house available at such good value for money and for your personal hospitality which was beyond any expectation, and much appreciated.

Motta Camastra is a wonderful village and well located for the Eastern side of the island of Sicily - Melissa, Catania, Taormina, Etna, even Siracusa. But what is special about Sicily in my opinion is the people and the food and you find that everywhere, especially the small towns and villages.

The La Martina house is cosy and very well kitted out - including a pair of binoculars so you can view the lava spewing from Etna about 5 miles away - yes i kid you not!

The local tourist attraction is Gole di Alcantara which is a spectacular gorge with chilly clear water pools and waterfalls. Well worth a visit - but busy in the summer with Italian tourists from the North who pile down to Sicily.

Did I mention Sicilian food? Get off the beaten track for the best food.
