We returned to Villa il Castellacio for the fourth time in June, it was great to see Leonardo again and experience his warm welcome and fabulous smile! We took another couple with us and they had the most amazing time as it was their first visit to Italy, so Castellaccio left a memorable impression in their hearts. We chose Castellaccio 3 this time and were pleasantly surprised by how roomy it was. The outside courtyard is perfect for sitting and having a glass of local wine after a day of sightseeing or having breakfast in the crisp morning sun. The weather was fantastic, hot enough to use the pool, though still cool in the evenings. Castellaccio is our favourite place to stay in Tuscany, thanks to Leonardo and his team who just know how to make you feel welcome, we even get waves and a smile from the little Italian lady in the farmhouse at the end of the driveway. We will be returning in 2017 for a milestone birthday celebration, this time with a large group of friends. If you are looking for a dream holiday, we highly recommend Villa il Castellaccio. You will need a car if you want to explore the surrounding countryside and cities, well worth it.

Room Tip: Castellaccio 3 has a great courtyard and lots of living area.

We had an enjoyable stay at the villa for our family of 11 which included 3 grandsons. Leonardo was very helpful as we planned activities for our week’s stay. He suggested a list of things which we used to put together our plan, and then he arranged for a chef for dinner and cooking class, a guide for Accademia and Ufuzzi museum tours in Florence, and drivers for village tours in the area. Our museum guide was terrific; a professor of art history who provided colorful background for the exhibits in the museums. We appreciated Leonardo’s suggestion to park at the train station in Figline and take the short train ride into Florence for our museum visits.

We ate most meals outside at the large table in the beautiful patio setting. The family enjoyed preparing several pasta dishes and especially enjoyed the whole experience of making pizza dough, and then making a variety of pizzas which we cooked on the wood burning grill at the villa. The highlight was the cooking class which most of our group participated in, and then we all ate for dinner.

The grandsons enjoyed swimming in the pool each afternoon after we returned from our days of sightseeing.

We can’t say enough about the home itself, which provided abundant “space” for our family—four couples, one of whom with three young children. We also can’t say enough about Leonardo’s attentiveness and quick response both in the planning and during our stay.

Our multi-generational family of 9 recently returned from a one week stay at the beautiful and charming Villa Il Castellaccio. Leonardo welcomed our family warmly and provided us with all the necessary information to enjoy our stay in this amazing villa. What an experience! Our entire family hopes to return again to breathe the fresh air and feast our eyes on the incredible scenery from every window and vantage point. I can not find one fault with the Villa. Beautifully appointed, charming, comfortable for a larger group and centrally located. The location made for easy day trips throughout Chianti and even Cinque Terre (2 hours by car). You certainly need a car to truly enjoy this area of Tuscany properly. The Hertz location in Figline worked well for us (beware they close from 1-3 daily). Two four door Fiat's worked for shuttling our group of 9. Don't miss the pizzeria / restaurant in Dudda or the charming town of Lucolena. Other suggested side trips are Greve, Monteriggioni, Castellina (don't miss!!!), Volterra and Cinque Terre. You can pickup any provisions you might need at Coop in Figline - grocery and essential wares. You will not regret choosing Villa il Castellaccio for your vacation! But - fair warning, you will start dreaming about returning as soon as you leave!

We just returned from a week stay at Villa Il Castellacio and couldn't have been more pleased with our choice! Our family of 9 (5 adults, 2 teens & 2 children) stayed in the private villa and had plenty of room. Leonardo met us promptly at our pre-determined arrival time and gave us a thorough walkthrough of the property in addition to a complementary bottle of Chianti to welcome us to Tuscany. The beautiful villa has 5 bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom in addition to two large living areas on the main floor (including a cabinet full of local wines that can be purchased), a game room on the top floor and an amazing kitchen and dining room on the ground floor.

The property itself is nestled in the hills of the Chianti region and overlooks the town of Lucolena and is a short 15-20 minute drive away from the Figline Valdarno train station that connects to Rome & Florence. Words cannot describe the beautiful view and waking up each morning to the sound of the church bells ringing faintly in the distance was amazing. The villa has its own private swimming pool and outdoor area replete with lounge chairs, an outdoor wood-burning BBQ and covered dinner area big enough for 10-12.

Villa Il Castellacio is centrally located in the Chianti region and was a perfect launching spot for the many day trips that we took to the surrounding villages, each one seemingly more charming than the next. Definitely check out San Gimignano, Volterra, and the villages of Castellina and Greve in Chianti!

Overall, we couldn't have been more pleased with our stay at Villa Il Castellacio. The property is amazingly beautiful with superb views and an extremely attentive staff. Leonardo and his team exceeded our expectations at every turn and we hope to return again one day.

We spent a week in apartment 1. There were 4 of us (65 to 70 year-olds) and the accommodations were perfect.. Leonardo was extremely helpful and the setting is ideally Tuscan. We ate at the Casa del Popolo in Lucolena twice and both meals were terrific in taste and value. We also used the bbq which had a pizza oven too.Leonardo showed us around the Villa and we would love to return there one day with our families.
A delightful experience and highly recommended.
