We have been to Greve many, many times but for some reason not to the lovely little medieval hilltop town of Montefioralle, above Greve, before...thank goodness we went! What an absolutely charming place. Time for lunch! We entered the family owned Taverna del Guerrino through a little doorway and immediately went down old stone stairs to the covered patio. And right before our eyes a spectacular view of Chianti! The menu includes traditional Tuscan food coming from a kitchen that has It's original wood-burning oven! All the grilled items are cooked over this fire which adds a special dimension to the simple cooking techniques. We enjoyed a shared grilled veal chop, first course of Tuscan bean salad and to finish a pear with Pecornio, honey and walnuts. We also had a jug of house wine. Our server, the owner, was extremely friendly, outgoing, was quick dealing with requests and moved things along but we did not feel we were being rushed. What a totally pleasurable experience...we could have stayed all afternoon soaking up the atmosphere! One thing...it's probably best to bring cash as it appears that the credit card machine has not worked for some time. Make sure you allow yourself time to wander around this "little treasure" of a town!
