“Two Fabulous Weeks in Villa Ruiz”
Reviewed November 23, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We wanted something completely relaxing, with everything on site so we didn't have to do too much travelling around. We wanted complete quiet & downtime.
From the first contact with Gerardo and Manuel to arrival, all arrangements, questions and directions were quickly answered and clear.
We had very high expectations after seeing the pictures and reading other reviews but upon arrival we soon realised that as much as all the reviews were positive none could really capture the beauty, tranquility, facilities and the welcome we received and the attention to our queries during our stay.

The villa was situated just a few mins outside Frigiliana, in the valley with fantastic 360 scenery, the village on one side, the mountains behind us, the med laid out on front and beautiful hills all around dotted with white houses and lush fields full of fruit.

The villa was immaculate, with all the accessories we needed though we spent most of the time on the two verandas eating and reading with the rest of the time spent in the fabulous pool, sunbathing or just chilling and reading.

Gerardo and his father would come round once or twice a week to tidy up and always bring us fruit, they were so respectful of our privacy you would hardly see them as they whisked around the garden watering the plants brushing up leaves and tending to the pool.

They were a great source of local information during the festival bringing us leaflets on the events in English and even helping us organise a local taxi so we could both enjoy the tapas, wine and beer on offer without having to drive back to the villa.

We will definitely have this high on our wish list for next years' holiday - as we both sit in the cold Irish winter evenings looking back with envy on the fabulous two weeks we had at Villa Ruiz and envy anyone there enjoying it now!!

Thanks Gerardo & Manuel! Hopefully see you in 2016.

After careful negotiation of the road to the villa my wife got out of the car and said "Wow this is it. Perfect". We had one trip day to Cordoba but went by holiday tour; bookable in Nerja at circa £98 for two. Take it from me its easier than driving there and you get a tour guide. The villa is well placed, well kitted out and the pool is great. If you are a hard working person who seriously needs a quiet break, this is it. You can buy all you need food wise at the Nerja Lidle. Once you have adequate supplies you really don't want to leave the villa. Gerardo and his dad Manuel are lovely people. We hope to see them again as soon as we can get back there. Excellent.

“Peace and tranquility, stunning views, with great facilities nearby”

We had a fantastic two week break at Villa Ruiz in July 2015. The villa was exactly as described in the listing. The location was perfect for us, nice and peaceful and not overlooked, with great panoramic views all round. A car is essential to get around, as it's a ten minute drive along a single track from the main Nerja-Frigliana road to the villa itself.
The villa was comfortable and had everything we needed - the air conditioning in the bedrooms was blissful, and made sleeping at night much more comfortable. Outside the villa, the two verandas were in constant use, and gave welcome shade through the heat of the day. The pool was great, a good size and much deeper than we were expecting. The barbecue area was also put to good use. With two teenage daughters, the villa's wifi was also very welcome and didn't seem to struggle even when all four of us were using it.

Our hosts, Gerardo and Manuel couldn't have been more helpful. They met us at the local petrol station and escorted us to the villa (we would never have found it ourselves, as we arrived at 11:00pm and the road to the villa didn't appear on our satnav). Gerardo's English was excellent (a big relief as our Spanish was none-existent) and he gave us a full guided tour of the villa and it's facilities, despite the late hour. Gerardo also ensured we had his mobile number in case we needed to contact him or had any questions - we didn't need to, but it was very re-assuring to know that he was close to hand. Manuel visited the villa every 2-3 days to tend to the garden, pool and outside area, but was always very discreet and respectful of our privacy (in fact if we weren't up early, we only knew he had been by the gifts of fresh plums and lemons that he generously picked for us from the villa's garden).

The surrounding area is very pretty and there is lots to do. The nearby towns of Frigliana and Nerja are really picturesque, with loads of great restaurants and Nerja has some fantastic beaches.

If you are looking for a peaceful retreat with great facilities in a stunning location (and you don't mind driving) we would highly recommend this accommodation. We would love to visit it again sometime ourselves.

“A little piece of heaven in Spain”
Reviewed July 23, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We stayed here the first 2 weeks in July 2015. The owner's son, Gerardo, sent us perfect directions for the journey from Malaga airport to the meeting place at a service station at the Nerja exit from the A7. Gerardo, who speaks excellent English, met us as arranged and we followed him to the villa. The villa sits in the middle of a valley at the top of a steep lane. The single track road leading from the main road winds its way for almost 2 miles to the villa and at first may seem a little daunting, but after a couple of journeys it's no problem. As you turn into the villa the first thing to be seen is the excellent swimming pool, about 20-22 feet long, 5' deep at the shallow end rising to 6' 6" at the deep end, that could quite comfortably accommodate our entire family if we needed to cool off at the same time. Under the villa is a garage equipped with a washing machine, ironing board and iron. Access to the villa is up a set of steps and onto the front, vine covered terrace, complete with a hammock that was the subject of much debate regarding who had priority to lie in it at siesta time. From this terrace there are tremendous views down the valley towards the sea. To the right is another terrace with views towards Frigilliana and the mountains beyond. The villa is well equipped, including Wi-Fi and air conditioning in both bedrooms, the owners obviously having taken heed of previous comments regarding the stifling heat in the bedrooms at night. If you require constant entertainment this is not the place for you. If you wish to chill all day, floating in your own pool or reading a book, followed by drinks on the terrace before making a foray down to Nerja for a meal in one of the excellent restaurants I would thoroughly recommend this villa. Any drawbacks? The double bed is too short!

“Relaxing Villa off the beaten track with an amazing pool”

We, my partner and 2 girls (10 & 13) and I, stayed at the Villa in July 14 and had one of the most relaxing holidays we have had in a long time. Very lazy days spent in the large pool floating about, or sat on the terrace reading our books/magazines. The villa is down a long single road away from the main road so very peaceful but it was easy to get to either of the 2 closest towns for either the market, shopping or eating out. The facilities on offer were great with full internet access which seems to be a must these days to check social media sites, email etc. I would highly recommend this villa to all families but not those with very young children as there are steps up to the villa/down to the pool.

Liked best: The amazing pool, and the side terrace where we sat and ate our evening meals.
Liked least: No air conditioning which made the night time stuffy. There were fans but the heat in July was at times too hot for us.

“Truly Relaxing Holiday in a Truly Beautiful Location”
Reviewed April 17, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

This was our first trip to Spain so was a bit apprehensive about meeting Manuel and Gerardo at the local services to be escorted down a very winding hillside road. However, the Villa was well worth the wait. The pool is as big as it looks in the photographs and kept impeccably clean...in fact we spent most of the time relaxing on the terrace of the pool. The villa has two terraces so you are spoilt for choice where to eat and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you would need to cater for yourself...with thoughtful purchases from Manuel and Gerardo such as fruit, bread, milk and water (also found washing up liquid, toilet roll, bin liners and a variety of cleaning equipment). Manuel also came to clean the pool during our stay and left us with new potatoes, strawberries and blackberries...all fresh and delicious.
We visited Frigiliana (mountainside village) where the locals were starting their Easter celebrations and the family lent us their car parking space (locked) to ensure that we could park. Had a fantastic meal at El Boquetillo (English speaking). We also visited Nerja (Coastal town) where you could spend time looking through the many boutique and tourist style shops; as well as spend time by the sea. Both locations were about 15-20 minutes from the villa so close enough to visit but far enough away to ensure a relaxing break.
I would definitely recommend stopping at Villa Ruiz...the pool was perfect, the views amazing and the hosts very generous and caring.

“Villa Ruiz - Simply Excellent!!!!”

We had a truly fantastic family holiday staying at Villa Ruiz in early November. The Villa itself is fully equipped with all you need for a fantastic holiday, views of the mountains to the rear truly breath-taking and gorgeous sea view to the front, fantastic for eating breakfast in the morning!

The swimming pool was fantastic also enclosed and quite and we found the Ruiz family who own the villa to be fantastic hosts - from being met on the way to the villa to having bread and milk already in the fridge on arrival to ensuring the Wifi internet was available for our visit - nothing was too much trouble and communication fantastic throughout!

This was our first visit to the Costa Del Sol and we certainly will be back and stay at this villa again

A great base for either a couple of family holiday!
