On the coach transfer it is quite scary driving past (although much worse on the return journey in the hourly hours with the walking dead on the streets) some of the places the coach stops. It is like a game of Russian roulette hoping the coach does not stop near to the "Eastenders" bar or other equally imaginatively stereotyped English named sub 2 euro a pint dens.

Seeing the Melia Calvia Beach location on their website offered some reassurance and indeed it is situated in by far the best part of the beach, with direct access to the sandy beach, tucked away in the corner so quiet at night.

First impression is, "oh thank the lord this is my hotel" with its foyer and spacious communal areas are all very tastefully finished with a warm contemporary and relaxed feel. Check in was painless and had a room on the 5th floor (opted for one with sea view). Lovely room, well appointed and super comfy large beds. Balcony with table and two chairs was great for early evening drink and chill with great open views over black lizard island and surrounding greenery. Great shower, well appointed bathroom and slept very well in this nice and quiet room. The room like other areas of the hotel was spotlessly clean.

Stayed half-board, food was excellent and buffet style for both breakfast and evening meal - both have so much choice and the quality is excellent. Unfortunately some people will never be happy and heard someone muttering about their favourite breakfast cereal not being on show. If this is you then just stay home and bathe in the joy of tescos. For the rest, this hotels offers a very good standard and choice of food and you will not be disappointed.

Outside the hotel there is a lovely pool with bar and outdoor beach style cafe/bar that leads onto the beach. Plenty of loungers and never (September) had a problem in getting one and have to say all the guests encountered were equally content, accommodating and lovely people. Various free activities for guests (some need booking) during the day and pool based water biking and tai chi all well attended and everyone seemed to enjoy. Evening entertainment was relaxed and chilled acoustic generally in the surrounding restaurant area.

This hotel feels relaxed, accommodating, quality and contemporary and at a reasonable price and would have no hesitation to return or recommend.

Any negatives? Well breakfast service was a little hit and miss staff wise, i think once in four days we were shown to a table and asked if we wanted tea or coffee other wise it was find a table (sometimes wait for it to be cleared) and fend for yourselves. Strangely the nearest coffee machine (where you generally need to queue) to the outside area is right by the main outside access ( glass doors always open) and where staff have their staff clearing area - that needs rethinking.

This is a minor thing that should not and didn't detract from an overall great hotel stay.

Room Tip: A sea view is worth the little extra

Calvia beach is our favourite hotel, our second time visiting and we can’t wait to come back! The service is the best I have ever received, we stayed in the level room 1012 and it was perfect. Amazing (free) kids club who were great with my autistic son. Can’t wait to go back and a special thanks to Rebecca fromThe kids club x the Kenworthys

Room Tip: 1012! Upgrade to the level of you can it’s so worth it.

Hotel has beautiful location on the beach. We booked The Level which was well worth the small extra cost. Rooms 1-8 are fantastic. We had no. 5, the veranda was private overlooking the sea ( a stone throw distance) supplied with 2 huge sun beds, table & chairs. Room had enormous bed, walk- in shower, separate loo room, plenty of wardrobe & drawer space, fridge ( mini bar cost) Nespresso coffee machine, kettle, coffee pods, sachets, tea, milk etc free. Check in & out via private reception desk on The Level very relaxing experience, thank you David & co. In this area there are fridges containing soft drinks ( all well known brands) & water & coffee machines available 24 hours which saved us loads of euros! At 17:30-18:30 every day there are free alcoholic drinks ( again known brands) and a delightful selection of finger-foods hot & cold ( by now we hadn’t really spent any money!) Half-board provided a great breakfast & choice of a la carte evening meal ( you need to reserve time slot) or buffet on level 0 with other guests. We found the a la carte menu amazing but sadly bit too fancy for me!! The Level has free gym & its own small private pool but below is main pool which is more child- friendly. Never any problems with sun beds, towels provided with free bottles of sun tan lotion & moisturiser. Staff always smiley & helpful. Main Reception on level 0 is lovely with a great relaxation area containing the usual sofas but also huge beds. The decor is tasteful. Live music in bar every evening. Dance classes every day by pool, hydro activities in main pool every day. Child club. Any negatives? Not really- except sleazy side of Magaluf only a short walk away ( but easily avoided if you walk along the beach front), buffet on level 0 not very impressive and bar prices expensive as per usual, But I have No hesitation in recommending this Hotel. Great holiday thank you.

Where do I start, at the beginning, we arrived from the Uk, 4am start, to arrive there and then wait over 3 hours for our room, which wasted day, things got worse at the evening meal, where we were insulted and intimidated by a waiter, to the point I had to raise my voice to tell him I did not want to talk to him, some of the staff were very rude indeed, like the maid removing the card, cutting the electric at 9am to tell us to get out of our room!, this hotel seems to think it is high class but then fail at the basics, tea and coffee in the room and no cups! cold soup, no toasting bread, no salt in the salt cellars.

It boasts 4 pools, one is the size of puddle, one is for those on the level only! it boasted a bar with entertainment, there was never anyone in it because there were better places with drinks at half the price! this is another point, they are not even subtle at basicallyw ringing you dry of cash at every chance, it really £for £ is the worst hotel I have had the misfortune to visit, ho by the way there is a mini bar with well over priced snacks and drinks in but no fridge to keep water cold! also the shower was an issue, not much room and hard to get the right temperature.

With being called a beach hotel you might think you can sunbathe on the beach or swim, well you cant swim and if you wanted a sunbed it costs 16 euros per couple per day!...

The arguement with the waiter was because i had a bottle of water, my partner has had throat cancer, this stole most of her saliva glands which i mentioned, but he still carried on, even leaning over me, and telling me I had no recpect! my partner even said the next morning she diod not want to go in the restaurant foir breakfast, utter disgrace. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, after this I have nothing good to say, only maybe the gym is slightly better than average!!

Room Tip: Go somwhere else.

Having stayed recently at Melia Calvia Beach, we enjoyed The Level experience which represented great value for money. Breakfast service could improve as staff were not supervised and didn't meet our needs. However; there were 3 team members who stood out: Jonny, Javier and David who were a real credit to the hotel and could not do enough for us. Not sure if we would return as hotel seems to cater for families with children which does not suit us but if this is what you are looking for go for it
