My hubby and i went for a weeks winter sun.
La Concha is rated 2 star and that is exactly what it is. Its apartments are a little dated and basic but are set in lovely peaceful grounds with two pools and plenty of reading material (books) and reading areas.
On arrival you have to find the receptionist who is also the cleaner and this took us around 30 minutes. We then had to wait a further 1.30hrs for our room to be ready as the previous occupants had decided not to leave on time.
Our apartment (number 4) was clean (ish), with the basics you need for a self catering (microwave, 2 ring cooker, fridge, pans etc). They get hoovered and mopped twice a week - yet the patio furniture (2 chairs, table and two sunbeds) gets cleaned daily. Towels are also changed twice weekly.
You definitely need to sweep daily yourself as there are an abundance of ants even in the cupboards! The bedding was old and worn as were the towels. Both were very thin with the odd hole, but were clean - except for the blankets which were needed due to the weather and were not very clean at all! The beds are comfy but the pillows are not! You get one pillow each in a joint pillow case so you cant scrunch it or move it without moving your partners!
The water is terrible!! Hot water lasts 2 minutes and is enough only to fill a small sink. we ended up boiling pans of hot water to 1/4 fill a bath as not even enough to shower in. This to me was a big issue.
There are aviaries all round the ground with a constant twitter going on - which didn't bother us at all but it might some people. There are several pestering cats and even a resident hedgehog that all come to the patio for food.
The apartments grounds are well kept and are swept/tided daily. However once a week they water the plants using a spray system that uses recycled sewerage water and it really pongs! Fab recycling but a bit smelly. Many books available to read and two pools that were just a bit too cold in Feb. A tennis court also and a spa offering treatments.
For me there is a lot of wasted space here. The empty bar could serve coffees/teas/juices and tapas which would be fabulous and there is a lovely glassed area that is just an area to read and could be utilised much better - say traditional spanish evening meals.
It is a 5/10 minute walk to the main strip, but i would advise that you head further to the harbour and the old part of the town (15/20min walk) as food there is much better, costs less and there are some lovely little restaurants and cafes The strip is much a muchness really and is a little too Blackpool for me. The beach is 2 minutes away and the dunes are about 5 minutes also.
overall - you get what you pay for and although La Concha is just what we wanted re: peace and quiet - it is in need of a little revamp and could offer so much more with a few tweaks. Would we return??? probably if they sorted out the water!
