Met the most fantastic people but the staff ruined the holiday, so bad mannered, it's like they didn't wanna be there, would never go back. However the local pub "white horse" was brill, staff were lovely and had some great nights out! Beach is stunning so yes calella is superb but this hotel is a bag of shi__!!!!!.....bonjour baguette

this hotel is in a very good location & ideal to go by train to Barcelona, staff were very pleasant& helpful, good standard of cleaning.
Walls very very thin, could hear the people next door talking. Nice size rooms. Food !!! basic
not very warm . Much better food & drink at the nearby family owned bar at excellent prices & you
could get the benefit of having good alchol not watered down beer & spirits at the hotel which is ok if you only want a drink without the effect!! Here you can be alchol free while drinking so called booze!! Which is a nonsense going all inclusive & not eating or drinking. Ideal to use as a base.

Room Tip: Use as a base .high floor had a nice view

We have returned yesterday from a 3 night break 9 women aged 17-54,the hotel looked ok in reception but we quickly found out it wasn't the food was diabolical as were the drinks we had several drinks and just ended up bloated and not the slightest bit tiddley despite all our efforts! The hotel is not a 4 star infact i wouldn't even say it was 2 stars, whilst the room was large it was boiling hot as no airconditioning was on and the heating on full blast all night, the patio doors didn't lock despite telling reception 5 times during our stay .The roof terrace was only open 1 day and all 3 jacuzzi's empty, the bowling alley was also closed. The staff are the worst i've ever encountered, rude with a couldn't care less attitude. We looked at the reviews a few days before we went and we took them with a pinch of salt, don't change to another hotel as it's awful. The class of people at the hotel all could have been off the Jeremy Kyle show, so in summary if you want a break with rubbish food awful drink terrible service and travellers then this is the place for you.Good tip if you've friends or relatives you don't like then send them to the Calella Palace a place to remember!!

We stayed at the Calella Palace in March for what was supposed to be a nice relaxing week away - Unfortunately thats not what you will get at this hotel as they cater for very large parties of foreign students.Every 2 days fresh students arrive, and every evening is students disco night with lots of screaming and running around until midnight..All the food was European menus so we were told, not really catering for British holidaymakers. Also be prepared NOT to be at the H Top hotel you booked, ourselves and everyone we spoke to had booked other hotels but were moved at the last minute-1or 2 on arrival !! We were told all of this was regular practice to accomodate the students. On the upside everywhere was clean and tidy but we will not be booking any H.Top Hotel again....

I have just returned from a short 4 day break at the Calella Palace - myself and a friend (both 24). In fairness we didnt get off to the best start, BUT! it was balanced out.
We arrived on a Sunday evening to find 2 large school parties - I believe they were Italian students approx 15 - 17 years old - and lots of them - and guess which floor they were on - ours! First night, 2am - laughing shouting, doors slamming - quick bang on the wall and they shut up, 8am that morning - Linken Park (aka sounds like Heavy metal music!) blasting full pelt from the other side .. not good .. but we spoke to reception and promptly were allowed to move to the 5th floor as they were all on Floors 2 & 3. Crisis averted :)

Hotel itself - pleasant, free wifi in the lobby, you can hire out the sauna and jacuzzi for free (5 euro deposit that you get back) and for 1 hour, you and who ever you are with get sole use of it - you can lock the door behind you so no one else can come in. We didnt get to use the outside pool as it was too cold, but there is a small heated indoor one - again not bad to just chill out in.
Rooms I was more than happy with - we had a twin, and both got a double bed, 2 decent sized wardobes, dressing table, bathroom had hairdryer - always fresh towels, free toiletries, a small but OK balcony, and cleaners came in every day to neaten things up.

Wasnt really any entertainment - but again I think that will change in a couple of weeks due to it being just before start of the main season.

all inclusive service not bad at all - I found there to be plenty of choice - you could always make a meal out of what they had, the breakfast was lovely - freshly made pancakes infront of you if wanted, most of the makings of a fry up - sausage, bacon, egg, beans etc. We also had the pleasure of having a couple of their packed lunches for day trips - not the usual! - 2 good decent sized sandwiches, 1 bottle of water, 2 pieces of fresh fruit, pate, french toast, marmalades, butter, biscuits, a knife to spread and napkin - not bad, considering not all hotels offer anythign if you choose to go out in the day.
The only thing we didnt try - as was too stuffed from other meals - was their snack bar, as breakfast, lunch and dinner genuinly did the job and it wasnt needed!

Surrounding area - it was literally 3/4 minutes walk to the beach, and the beach itself looked clean and tidy but the weather didnt really permit us using it! Lots of little bars and restaurants and supermarkets. we had the good timing of still being slightly out of season so everyone kept offering us discounts trying to get us in! Was a slow 20 min walk to the train station, and took us just over an hour to transfer from Barcelona airport.

things to do - we got the train to Barcelona - only 8.40euros - took an hour, and went to Barcelona Zoo - an amazing place to visit - dolphin show fantastic and a great variety of animals - if you can - take your passport/driving licence and hire a buggy - its a great way to see such a large zoo, and only cost us 15euro entry.

The only downside was the RUDE OBNOXIOUS OLDER GERMAN PEOPLE!! (sorry!) but I have no respect for people that push, shove, tut and look you up and down like a piece of dirt! We'd be waiting for the lift, and they'd actually barge us out of the way to get in front! In the restaurant, people would be queuing and walking one way, and they;d just push in and start taking mountains of food. This was the main offputting thing of the hotel and we noticed they'd put all the english travellors on the 3rd floor with the kids - which I found quite annoying. They should have left them all together to be noisy on their own floor, not inflict it on us!

Overall, I would return to the Calella Palace - if there was definately no schol trips!

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view - back is a bit dull! and anything past floor 3 doesnt hear the noise from downs...

We have just returned yesterday from a 1 week all inclusive stay at the Calella Palace, Spain- there were 2 couples (aged 40) and my mum & her friend...unfortunately the weather wasn't perfect but there was no problem using a brolly & you could still walk about in shorts. This is the third time i have been to Calella and i enjoyed the stay albeit it wasn't the best holiday or the best hotel we have stayed in but it was by far the worst either. We paid £400 each All Inclusive for 1 week stay!!!
I would say it is definately a 3 star - NOT 4 star hotel - food was plentiful and always hot (mum says the tea/urn wasn't very hot at all..lol). We all really enjoyed the breakfasts & cannot fault them at all however even though there was plenty of food to choose from & was mostly tasty it was a bit repetitive much to the annoyance of my hubby.SNACKS were the biggest let down of all - only a triple ham & cheese sandwich (No butter/mayonniase) and dry sponge cake. VERY POOR!!
For All Inclusive you had a card instead of a wristband & when going for drinks you only got served 1 drink per card at a time - A Major pain in the backside when in groups!! Also drinks were poor quality which is probaably just as well when you think about it as the hotel would be full of drunks which would spoil your holiday..lol..would've been nice not to have to visit other pubs to get a decent drink tho....The White Horse at the bottom of the hill is very friendly & handy supplied with the only IRN BRU in Calella..they definately give good quaality drinks for money but be careful coz you only need 2 or 3 with plenty of juice to top up.
On our arrival I was gutted to find a huge french/italian school trip but to be honest we didn't hear a peep from them as they were excellently behaved & were out on trips most of the time. Only issue was you couldn't get a seat in the lovely foyer when they were around...lol...The foyer was lovely to sit in if wanting to chill & read especially on wet days rather than in your room.
If you are looking for friendly staff then this is defo not the place to go - Bar staff looked like wet wellies apart from one cheery chappy with a funny squeaky voice...lol...he was excellent. reception staff did exactly what was written on the card but when your handbag gets stolen (as did my mum's friend and another lady the next day) then do not expect any sympathy or assistnce wotsoever...Obviously everyone knows that your bag is your own responsibility - which is what they kept on repeating - however if you are sitting in a group of 6 in the Hotel Bar with your bag at your feet you most certainly do not expect it to get swiped. Also the other poor lady was in the Reception area waiting on her coach to the airport & put her bag down on the table to take a foto of her wee boy when sum chancer stole her bag!! I would say this hotel is definately targeted by an organised group rather than oportunist thiefs so if you go there then BEWARE & Keep your bags very close!!
If we had paid around the £150 - £250 mark i would have been delighted with this hotel but for paying £400 each for 1 week All Inclusive i would sadly say we did not get what we paid for & thank god we did not have any kids/teenagers with us who would require lots of snacks coz it would have cost us a bomb.
We would still go back though but i will be checking out better deals first..lol

Room Tip: try to get a room on third or 4th floor coz lifts are very slow and i think in high season would be...
