Stayed here in early June for one night, after haring round the mountain passes before heading north into Germany.

It's a small town, but has a railway station (hotel is opposite the station) and a couple of restaurants.

There was a bit of confusion when we arrived: we booked through booking.com and the receptionist, who didn't speak much English, didn't understand this and tried to charge us more. We eventually got there (in my patchy German) and we ended up in a two story chalet which was lovely. Decor was traditional but all clean and tidy, plus a coffee machine. Huge windows opened up onto a balcony with views of fields and mountains with full fly screens so you could sleep with the windows open all night. The following morning we were woken by the sound of the local cows mooing and their bells clanging - which was lovely.

We had dinner there - limited choice but decent. The husband had seconds (they offer a larger portion/refill of certain dishes for a few € extra). And we got free cake. Yum.

The only thing that let it down slightly was breakfast - not much choice at all and some odd contraption to cook your own eggs.

Other than that, one of the cheaper, decent hotels you'll find in Switzerland.

What we liked about this was the nice and quiet ambience. The hotel staff seemed extremely happy and cheerful and would comply with all requests. We are finicky about the hygiene of bathrooms and quality of beds, which we thought was really good. The place is a perfect destination for couples who want to spend some quality time with each other. If my travels take me, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. All in all a great experience.

Cheers!!

We found this place walking the streets of Giswil. About 12 of us came in and the girl who saw us said they had an outdoor area we could use as we hadn't booked and they were busy for dinner. We were happy for this as it was warm albeit looked like it may rain.

Outside were some locals who chatted with us and a cool outdoor BBQ - a cutout log.

We ordered the food and as it was bought to is it poured with rain but we were fine under a marquee with the rain forming a curtain around us and the river flowing behind us. Was magic and we were glad we weren't inside.

The food was great and plenty of it.

After dinner with the locals there was a tarp which was full of water they were trying to release as it was holding 200 plus litres of rain. Not sure thy realised was over 200kg. We got the to get a hose and dos the siphon trick for them. All had a laugh and they bought us a drink. Great night.

We chose this simple little hotel to keep from paying much higher prices in the Interlaken/Jungfrau area. It was comfortable, and met our needs, even though our room had a shared bath. The furniture was beautiful old antiques that all matched. If we had been traveling by train, it would have been a great choice, since it was literally steps from the train, which is so quiet we could hardly hear it go by. It also would have been good with kids, since there is a large playroom and videogame area. The breakfast was nice, and the views of Swiss country life were beautiful. We were there during a heatwave and missed air conditioning, but very little in this price range has AC. The drive over the mountains to the Jungfrau region was gorgeous and dramatic, and we did it 2 days in a row, but it was a good hour because of the very steep and winding roads.

I thought this would be a grand old railway hotel and it was, except that we were put in a little cottage outside the main building. This might have been a good thing as the main building was a bit smoky ('fusty' we would say).
After arrival it took 10 minutes before someone gave us the key, but actually the room was very clean and no problems there.
