“Wonderful stay”
Reviewed 19 April 2012

First time visiting Colonial Williamsburg with my husband and two children ages 12 and 9 during spring break. First, the location of the hotel is excellent as you are in walking distance to the historic area. The lobby is nicely furnished with a resturant and lounge area on location. The staff was very friendly and informative advising us on what to see during our 4 days visiting the area. Most importantly, our room which was a king bed with pull out couch was very clean and comfortable. Also, my children really enjoyed the spa's outdoor and indoor pool which is located across the street from the lodge. Overall, the lodge is a very nice place to stay and I would definitely stay there again.

During a recent trip to visit our son in Washington DC we journeyed down to check out Colonial Williamsburg, staying at the adjacent Williamsburg Lodge. Our room was actually in the nearby Nicholas Guesthouse, not in the lodge. The guesthouses are two-story brick buildings that resemble a more stately dormitory. They're right across the street from Colonial Williamsburg itself which makes it convenient for visitors.

On the upside, the lodge touts its spa and though we didn't visit, the room had oversized samples of its spa soaps and toiletries. Probably the best shampoo and soap I've enjoyed from a hotel in a while. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, the oversized bathroom and bath also much appreciated. On the downside, our Keurig coffeemaker didn't deliver as promised, giving us tepid coffee after a few tries at figuring it out. Also, prices here seem quite high, as is most everything in Colonial Williamsburg. The vending machine down the hall sold Coke for $2.75 for a 20-ounce bottle. And why are the Williamsburg mugs $28? They're not antiques, are they?

There was a different atmosphere at this guesthouse too, probably because of the old prints and paintings that hung in the rooms and public areas. Some of them I found a little creepy. And when a photo of our room produced one of those orbs that some say indicate spirits of the dead are present, it reinforces that eerie feeling you sometimes get in very old places. Virginia does boast many ghosts (there were six editions of a 'ghosts in Virginia' series at the local bookstore). The nearby tavern ghost walk was a popular event too. But there were no ghostly manifestations during our visit.

All in all, I would stay here again if I could afford it. You get discount tickets to Colonial Williamsburg for any or all days of your stay. We didn't have time to avail ourselves of that and walking through the village is free anyway. But the peace and tranquility was welcome.

Can't begin to say how wonderful the Williamsburg Lodge was. I wasn't expecting much from Williamsburg in general and figured we would be bored within a couple of days..boy was I wrong! Everything at the Lodge was outstanding from the most comfortable beds ever, to clean, clean rooms, the best breakfast buffet, great gift shop and the staff really goes out of their way to help and please you. I think the bigger hotel chains need to take lessons from them and their wonderful customer service. The spa was also fantastic. I'm already looking forward to going back and spending a full week, and hopefully more there. There is sooo much to see and do. It's just beautiful there and more fun than I could have ever imagined. I know I'm gushing, but take it from someone who travels a lot and also worked in the NYC hotel industry ..this place is the best!

Room Tip: Stay in the Nicholas Building - I think it's the newer building. Make sure to ask for a package...

We stayed at the Lodge for 3 nights in mid April. While we have stayed at fancier hotels and resorts, we are hard pressed to think of a hotel we've stayed at that had a friendlier staff. From check-in to valet parking to the wait staff at the restaurant, the service was top notch and delivered with genuine friendliness. The only improvement that I could suggest was for the hotel to put more lamps/reading lights in the guest rooms, as we had to move a desk lamp over to an armchair for reading in the evening. The location of the Lodge is perfect in terms of access to the Historic District. This was our first trip to Colonial Williamsburg, but we would love to return, and would plan to stay at the Williamsburg Lodge again.

We had one of the standard rooms which was nice but in need of some TLC in the near future. The price was more than I like to pay for a hotel room but included breakfast, WB admission tickets and was walking distance to everything. We stayed 3 nights but only used the admission tickets 1 and 1/2 days - not sure if there was an option to book one of the nights without tickets but that might have saved some $.

The included breakfast buffet was good and the staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and helpful - especially the servers at breakfast! The only other meal we had at the WB Lodge was one dinner in the bar - burgers and sandwiches that were good.

Last spring we traveled to Colonial Williamsburg and stayed at the Williamsburg Lodge. It was a beautiful place! It was very close to the town; just within walking distance. We loved visiting all of the great places in the town including the restaurants, the Courthouse, gardens, houses, walking tours, Fife & Drums, and riding in a horse drawn carriage. It was a wonderful place and I am so looking forward to returning!

Room Tip: Williamsburg Lodge is a great place to stay...quiet and lovely!
