This was in the perfect location, within walking distance of the historic Williamsburg locations, and reasonably near a bus stop of the shuttle.

The rooms were comfortable, although the pillows seemed a bit tired. And perhaps there wasn't quite the cleaning done that we're accustomed to at the price level of this B&B.

Breakfast was listed as only one hour (8-9) which meant that early risers, as well as late risers, were out of luck. Breakfast each morning was some sort of breakfast bread pudding casserole, plenty of fresh fruit, and canned biscuits, some with Virginia country ham, some plain, and bacon. The orange juice was of the high quality, not from concentrate, sort.

They had tea bags, hot chocolate mix and instant coffee for any time you wanted it, with a hot water spigot to make them. And lemonade and chocolate chip cookies always available.

The couple who owned it were extremely pleasant and helpful about the sight-seeing options, restaurants and other area information.

Our stay, as as I said, was pleasant. But one caveat...there's a flight of steps that you have to climb, and I don't think it was mentioned in the website. A year ago, after some leg surgery, I might not have been able to navigate it. But you still will have to carry luggage up those steps...and we were on a two week trip so we had plenty of luggage!

My wife and I stayed at the Fife & Drum Inn in Williamsburg for several nights while visiting Williamstown in May 2012. The location was excellent as it is within several hundred yards of the historic area. The accommodations were excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpfull with our questions about the area. We would definately recommend this B&B.

Fife & Drum Inn is the only Bed & Breakfast in downtown Williamsburg, easily accessible to everything by walking. The Inn also has nearby dedicated parking for guests, a huge plus! Innkeeper Billy Scruggs was immensely helpful in his directions to us for the "not-to-miss" attractions of Historic Williamsburg. Inn and rooms are accessed by a card-swipe. Lemonade, coffee and tea, and homemade cookies are available all the time; breakfast buffet was extremely good. Other guests were asking for Rhonda's recipes!
Inn was very quiet during our stay. Big flight of stairs upon entry to the Fife & Drum at street level. Anyone who has mobility issues might have a problem here.
Only drawback we experienced was the challenge of getting our room comfortably cool. Windows in our room did not appear to open, but there was an overhead fan. Thermostat worked with the speed of tar.
All other factors were superb, so we would definitely return! Bed was very comfortable, good shower, wonderful hospitality. They did a fabulous job with a very old building. The place was squeaky clean and beautifully polished!

Room Tip: Rooms have in-suite bathrooms, some have tubs, some have showers.

We received a gift certificate from our son for the Fife & Drum in Williamsburg. Having never been there before we didn't know what to expect. We were cheerfully greeted by "Billy" and he immediately went with us to our car and carried practically all of our luggage up to our room. My husband and I were quite impressed by the atmosphere of the inn which was very welcoming. We were delighted with our room...so much so, that I just had to take pictures it was so great. I wanted to take the bed home with us..it was that comfortable. They do serve breakfast from 8-9:00 but we did not partake as we wanted to rest in. The inn is located in the heart of Williamsburg tourist section and we did not have to use our car at all....we walked wherever we went. They also provide a parking area just for the Fife & Drum residents. If we could give this a 'More Than Excellent" rating we would. A+ all the way.

Room Tip: Just go the Fife & Drum & be assured that you are in a "quality inn".

We visit good friends in Williamsburg every year and have stayed at various accommodations. Fife and Drum is the best! We love the proximity to restaurants and shops, the closeness of W&M for morning walks and being almost next door to our favorite coffee shop --Aromas. The rooms are immaculate and the bathrooms have all been updated. On our last visit, Billy, Susan and Rhonda took great care of us and provided wonderful breakfasts. Would not stay anywhere else and looking forward to next year.

What a wonderful vacation we had. Our goal was to stay as close to the historic area as possible allowing us to just walk out the front door and quickly be a part of the past. Nestled across from William and Mary University at the market area, the inn's location did not disappoint. The inn's owners and staff helped make our stay very welcome. They were always looking to meet our every need and, having grown up and stayed in the area all his life, Billy was a vast resource concerning the important historic facts and knowledge of the area. My daughter enjoyed reading from the "library" of books available near the breakfast room. The rooms are all unique and full of Williamsburg charm. We look forward to another trip here next year and the warmth of the good hospitality of the Fife and Drum.
