Stayed during the weekend for a quick getaway from Seattle. Lummi Island is quite quaint. An old fishing village now turned vacation spot. The Willows Inn is settled on the coastline. We stayed at their Cottage about a 1/4 mile away (next to Nettles Farm). The cottage was homespun cozy. While we were a little nervous about the neighbors, the chicken coop, they behaved themselves quite well. Dinner at night was fantastic (really the reason we visited Willows Inn) and breakfast the following morning delicious. The dining room view is breathtaking. All-in-all, a very enjoyable experience. It'll be fun to come back during a different season.

Of course everyone goes for the food and, boy, it is fabulous. A foodies must. But the Island and the Inn have real charisma as well. The customer service exceeds all else. We had a great room, The Haven, with fireplace and huge bathroom with tub and steam shower. Unfortunately the kitchen staff below decided to make some noise during clean up (until 12:30pm) until my husband went down and said something. The next day our room charge was comped by the Inn. We didn't have to say a word and they wrote off the whole charge, unbelievable.
We will be back for another dinner to try a different season of locally grown and raised food. We will stay at the Inn and even though we just left, I can hardly wait.

My husband and I took a quick trip here from Seattle for his birthday. It was a spectacular little getaway. The property is very pretty, our room was attractive and comfortable and of course the dinner was delicious as well as fascinating. The grounds are a bit rustic - a pathway was blocked because of a huge hole; there is very little lighting outdoors at night so it can be a challenge to make your way safely around parts of the exterior. That is only to set your expectations that you are not at a glamourous Disneyland-perfect place. You can tell the grounds are going to get better and better as the great press they are getting will increase their ability to do so. In the meantime, the interiors are perfection. They are very beautifully painted and furnished for complete cozy comfort. We also had massages there which were very good. Every employee we encountered was very kind, very professional as well as helpful. It is a great place that we hope to return to again.

Room Tip: We didn't take our pet, but understand that there are a few rooms that allow pets.

First of all, all rooms were fully booked so I can only comment on the dinner (I normally don't review restaurants on TA but Willows Inn definitely is worth mentioning and it is in a hotel...)

If you are the kind of person that generally spoils yourself with good food, and you've tried most things and the 'best' restaurants are starting to bore you, you should give Willows Inn a try. The courses have the right balance of ingenuity, simplicity, and sophistication... the best way to describe it actually, it's like a western 'kaiseki'. This was the first time I had real 'foraging' style cuisine at this level which is all the rage now, and I must admit I was dubious at first but I was seriously impressed from the get go. I would very much love to go back and stay the night to try the other food served during the day.

Apart from the amazing food though, the only criticism I have is that there was only 1 bathroom for the entire restaurant (so I found myself queuing up).. And, you should know this before you go, taking into account the transportation there, the ferry, the food, drinks, etc etc, it can be a pretty spendy evening. All worth it though, even if you have to come across the border.

We took a couple of days to celebrate my husband`s retirement and have created treasured memories. Lummi Island is a simple and unspoiled place...we had done our homework so we were not surprised that the chief joys are the incredible scenery, some art studios, and a few micro farms you can tour. Frankly, its a relief not to have Disney or Mall of America trappings, and we hope it stays that way. Arriving at the Willows Inn, we found the staff to be charming and helpful. Our room was The Haven and it was lovely and comfortable, and we especially enjoyed the fireplace and sitting area. As time and resource permits, we encourage the owners to refinish the deck, add a closet for guests to hang clothes, and to find a way to eliminate all the kitchen noise from the operations below the room (day and night this was an issue). The chief draw is the dinner, and it was simply extraordinary. We`ve dined at the Herb Farm, and Michelin restaurants all over Europe, but this was an experience like no other. The dining room is small and intimate, with a relaxed ambiance. The team who presents the food is wonderful, and each presentation came with little chats about ingredients and their pleasure in the preparation. We don`t want to spoil the surprise of the sequence or contents as part of our pleasure was the unexpected amuse bouche and ensuing dinner. Creative, delightful, delicious, beautiful, and insanely fresh (we watched them gathering from the gardens moments prior to dinner). A wonderful range of ingredients, many done in new ways or combinations. And then you arise in the morning to have breakfast, stunningly perfect tastes in a lovely arrangement of elements, just enough to fill you. It is so special that this experience is located in a beautiful place, away from noise and crowds, and lights and wretched excess. We regard this as an extraordinary treat...and we`re bringing family back in December to share the wonder. Congratulations to the owners and Chef Wetzel & staff for partnering with small local businesses and making something special in an unexpected place.

The location is spectacular, the food out-of-this-world, and the ferry trip is only 10 minutes. What's lacking is any sense of decor. We stayed in the very pricey Beach House, which truly feels like someone's beach house. Someone other than the hotel; there are personal paintings, notes, food, etc. in the house. It doesn't feel like a hotel property, doesn't resemble the decor of the main hotel building, and you feel like you're renting someone's house.

That said, the view from the bedroom is phenomenal, you're right on the beach, and Lummi Island is a very special place. One caveat: they say they have bikes free for your use, which is great if you have some spare tires in your trunk and are 5'1". Otherwise, the free bikes don't do you much good, as they're completely unusable. Bring your own, or cheat and rent the $35 electric bikes.
