“Good Location for touring Mt Baker area”
Reviewed August 2, 2018 for a stay in July 2018

Sunrise Suite was an affordable option for us to stay near Mt Baker for the activities that we had scheduled. (It was about a 40 minute drive from there to Artist Point. (Not so many miles, but the twisting, winding road slows you down!)

Kevin and Maggie were hospitable, kind and accommodating of our unusual schedule.

Guests stay in a suite that they have created on the second floor of their home.

The suite is a nice, tastefully decorated, clean bedroom (with a queen size bed) and a roomy, full bathroom. There is an additional room that has a mini kitchen/ table and seating area. The extra room was nice as it gave us space to process and reorganize our suitcases.

We gave this property a rating of three because of the clutter in the extra room ... and outside on the property ... and the neighborhood. While cleanliness and security are most important to us, we were surprised when we saw the exterior condition of the place and its location in the daylight when compared to other properties that we have stayed at!

We appreciated Kevin and Maggie and wish we could give a higher rating to their property but believe it is important to give an honest assessment for the benefit of others. Their property will definitely meet your needs if you are looking for a safe, comfortable place to sleep for the night.

Just to clarify, we are Suite Paradise, not Sunrise Suite.

We were surprised and dismayed at some of the comments in your review! In the 10+ years we have hosted guests, we have never had such a review. We truly regret you were disappointed. However, I believe some explanation is in order.

I’m not sure what “clutter” in the extra room you could be referring to. The only thing in the extra room are the amenities for our guest’s comfort and convenience, including the small library and sewing kit. Our focus is on guest’s comfort and convenience. We intentionally choose not to have “spartan” accommodations because we don’t want to be a “Motel 6.” We want our guests to have more than just the basics and get real value for their dollar.

As for the clutter outside, we do have a BBQ and some “yard art” [sculptures, birdhouses, tree-faces, etc.] in our front yard, where are guests have access to our small “woodland” area.

The back and side yards are our private area, currently undergoing a “makeover” and being re-configured. Sorry the odd building/landscape materials bothered you. Our intention is to have this wrapped up this summer.

As far as the “neighborhood” goes… we do live in a rural mountain area. Any rural mountain or recreational/vacation communities I have ever seen, have properties where you might see vintage vehicles, RV’s and/or agricultural equipment.

Also, our area is known as the “American Alps” for a reason. Twisty roads are to be expected and really are part of the spectacular “Mount Baker experience”; and the only way to climb over 4,600’ in about 30 miles. Our volcanoes are not short!

In all fairness, you did not rent our back yard, side yard, or the neighborhood. You rented our 2nd floor guest suite, about which you gave a glowing review, in spite of the “clutter.”

Our neighborhood is not a pristine, HOA-governed, gated community. However, being a tourist area, exclusive gated condo accommodations are available. However, you would be paying several hundred dollars a night for such accommodations instead of a rate of under $70 a night.

We wish you well!

Abundant blessings!
