Really nice building with wooden boats, racing skulls and more. Fun to see what is new and a great location for having a coffee and watching the boats coming out of the marina also.

My visit to Port Townsend was specifically to see the Wooden Boat Foundation and the beautiful eight-seat boats built by George Pocoik (The Boys in the Boat) for rowing teams all over the US. The local Rat Island Rowing Club has restored some, and is restoring others. Steve is a local builder who has built some beautiful boats. It's a thrill, a pleasure to see this craft continue.

My favorite place to visit whenever we are in Port Townsend. Love to watch them working on all of the different boats. The Chandlery is a great place to shop as well. Always leave with something from there.

This is not an official museum or display but rather is the workshop of folks building and renovating small wooden boats. You are free to go in, look around and chat with anyone who happens to be working. There are photos and stories of the "project boats" that the volunteers are restoring right there in the workshop..

The center has lots of activities and events from boat building classes, sailing and navigation courses and the annual Wooden Boat Festival. The Wooden Boat Chandlery is attached and sales help support the center.

We spent over an hour between the workshop and the chandlery and could have stayed a couple more hours if we had the time. I was so enchanted by the workshop, I want to move to Port Townsend and volunteer here!
