“Excellent Location / Home and Wonderful People”

Jim and Gail are the most incredible hosts! They are so warm and welcoming that it really feels like you are staying with friends and by the end of our stay, that is what they are. We are fortunate that they had a room available. The house has a great history and even though there were other guests, it was very quiet and private. It is a great location right on the water with great views across the water to both Vancouver Island and Whidbey Island. Watch the ships and ferries sail by. There are long walks down the beach that is right outside the house and a short walk into town for the shops, restaurants, and theater - the Rose Theater is a classic. The breakfast was always delicious and very filling. We highly recommend it.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in early September. We stayed in the Island View room and loved it! The view of the ocean from our room was great and we were lucky to catch one incredible sunrise from there as well. The room, as well as the rest of the house, was very comfy and inviting. Jim and Gail were super nice and went above and beyond to provide every ammenity - like offering binoculars for our trip to Hurricane Ridge and providing a windbreaker for our sailing adventure on the Suva! The breakfast each morning was delicious and the house was within walking distance to restaurants and shopping in downtown Port Townsend. Overall, we loved staying at Commander's Beach House and will definitely stay here on our next visit to Port Townsend!

On a whim we decided to take a few days off last week to recharge the batteries. Luckily The Commander's Beach House had an opening for two of the three evenings we would be in Port Townsend.
The house is perfectly located, a short walk to shops and restaurants, AND right on the beach away, backs turned on the town and the activity. The house is very homey and comfortable. Very clean! Our hosts, Jim and Gail are very well suited to their jobs. Jim is a natural with people and had us laughing much of the time. Gail is very warm and friendly and a darn good cook as well.
This was the perfect location to unwind on the beach with a good book and a drink. Wonderful!

Recently stayed for 4 relaxing nights with our two teenage daughters. Location is great, right on the beach overlooking Whidby island and Mt. Baker, an easy walk to town. Jim and Gail were about as accomodating as you could be. Quick to offer up something to eat or drink or to suggest things to do, restaurants etc. The rooms were very nice and very comfortable. Sunrise from the "Island View" room was spectacular, the seagulls agreed! Breakfasts were wonderful and our hosts did everything possible to make us feel comfortable. Will definitely stay there again and recommend to friends.
Thanks Jim and Gail!

Gail and Jim could not have been better hosts. They are positive and fun people who know how to make their guests relax enjoy the property located at the Beach and walking distance to Port Townsend - a wonderful small town with complete shopping experiences at locally owned shops. There are many very good restaurants too. Our room overlooked the beach and we had cool breezes each night from open windows. Each morning at breakfast we had our own table, but the arrangement was such we could talk with other guests. Gail prepared and Jim served creative and varied breakfasts of top quality.

Last year I read about the north coast of the Olympic Peninsula and this year I visited, for sure to return. A magical place full of sights, sounds, and scents of the ocean. None better than at The Commander’s Beach House right next to the beach, close to the marina, fine restaurants, the Northwest Maritime Center (the tour is worth it!), and historic Port Townsend. My car was parked and I walked everywhere – a great de-stressor. The CBH is a charming old house (1934), with a nautical past, gracious and kind hosts, lovely rooms in a quiet location: right next to the beach. There is an RV park to one side, yet the garden and orientation of the house assure privacy. The garden adjoins the beach, inviting morning walks with the tide out and evening views of water and sky to feed the soul. My room faced the side garden, was quiet and I got to share the bathroom with the hosts who had more patience with me than I would have. Breakfast was exquisite and plenty. It’s a place to return to, I thank Gail and Jim, and of course, Captain Cutter, who oversees all.

Room Tip: The room was lovely and quiet - there are no public streets around the CBH.

This B&B couldn't have been more perfect with it's beachfront yard, beautiful gardens, in town location, excellent breakfast, and gracious hosts. We were a group of 'not always quiet' women in town for the Blues weekend and both Gail and Jim went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, from the best reservations to accomodation for our extra person. Their home is full of nautical artwork, comfy couches, antiques and the perfect view of Puget Sound. Definately not a staid or stuffy B&B. Can't wait to take my daughter or husband back.
