We were very close to not going here. many of the previous reviews talked about so so food and unkept facilities. Since we were desperate for Dim Sum we gave it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. Though their set up is not ideal and you have to order off of a menu, the dishes were steaming hot by the time they came to our table. Not certain if all items were prepared on site, but it seemed that the majority were. Here's what we found good. HKE had more items available on the menu than what's listed online. And there were several dishes that we found quite good - e.g. egg flower soup, pork sui mai, shrimp leek patty, red bean sticky rice. Cleanliness didn't seem to be a real issue either. Service was somewhat unrushed, but not a huge problem. Wishing that there was time during the week where they dedicated service to Dim Sum. Not a bad choice given it's the only Dim Sum option in town.

Hole in the wall, tiny laid back digs. Nothing fancy - simple diner atmosphere. Don't expect extravagant. The food is where the shine is! Not many buffet dishes but each one is simply delicious! Our new favorite

In the afternoon mail I received a coupon to try their Chinese Buffet.

It said "Best Buffet in Town". It said "Best Chinese Good in Town".
The Management really needs a reality check. There are better, FAR better Chinese restaurants in this town. There are also CONSIDERABLY better buffets.

This is a generic neighborhood Chinese Cafe. It appears that the bulk of their business is take out/delivery. With very few customers actually staying to eat in their dining room.

I have eaten at ALL of the Chinese buffets in the region within the past six months.
This one is by far the SMALLEST buffet with the most limited number of choices.
What they call their "buffet" is actually the steam table they use to keep food warm for the take out/delivery orders which come in.

This "buffet' is about the most basic, most generic selection of Chinese dishes to be found anywhere - egg rolls, kung pow chicken, chow mein and the like. Nothing is unique, nothing is innovative. It is just your basic delivery items.

The dining room is not for the faint of heart. We walked past THREE full tubs of dirty dishes just to get into the dining room. Our vinyl seats were cracked and split and repaired with strips of black plastic tape which had been on so long that it had also cracked and split and collected "grit" in the sticky patches.

Of all the Chinese restaurants in the region, this one has by far the most indifferent service.

We came to eat dinner, stood politely by the cash register. We were totally ignored by the kitchen staff standing five feet away. There appeared to be no Host, Greeter, Food Server anywhere in the entryway or in the dining room. Eventually a young man came charging out of the one unisex bathroom (Ladies, you have to share the facility with anyone who comes into the place...) and asked us what we wanted. He did not smile. He made no effort to act like he was glad to see us...

This was during the regular dinner hour. There were no soup bowls set out for the soup on the buffet. There were no cups for the self service ice water or the self service soft drinks (these cost extra). We served ourselves. We refilled our own glasses. The female food server who eventually appeared has all the personality of a North Korean Border Guard. We half expected her to hiss and spit and make the sign of the evil eye....

What they describe as "Best Chinese Food in Town" is OK. Just OK. Nothing fancy. Nothing Special. Nothing in the top half of all Chinese restaurants in town.

Pass this one by, you can do better FAR Better

Things are not usually made fresh. Weird taste to the dishes in the times I've been there. You get to look at the food before it goes on your plate....so that's something.
