Super disgusting place, big black flys, dirty hot tub, we got health issues because very dirty house, never try that!!
This was the perfect getaway during the 2020 pandemic. Everything was cleaned thoroughly and extra precautions were taken for any health concerns before we arrived. The hot tub was crystal clean and maintained daily.
Charming stone house with a gas fireplace, covered deck, and extrerior deck with a sunken in hot tub, all with a view of the Cheat River.
We enjoyed our retreat. The only issue we had was with a 2nd floor full batbroom which did not seem to be operating quite right, so we all showered in the first floor bath.
There was a note included about the water being potable well water which some may find objectionable. I would highly recommend bringing lots of bottled water, for drinking and brushing your teeth and face. Strong smell of sulfer when using any tap.
Otherwise, we greatly enjoyed our stay. Very peaceful, super friendly staff about the grounds and super clean. If you are looking to go off grid, this was definitely a comfortable means with a beautiful setting to do it.
Completely satisfied our group of six trout fishermen. Steps away from trout fishing and on the boarder of the national forest. The cabin met all of our needs.
The cabin is in need of repair - the flooring in the kitchen is ripped, the bathroom door had a hole punched in it, the wallpaper was peeling, and both the kitchen and bathroom floors were so dirty when we arrived that your feet stuck to them. The kitchen is stocked with a mix of dishes and not very good cooking pans. The view out the front window is not of the river but a broken down shed. They had a TV but no guide, no DVD player. Usually there is a notebook with ideas of places to go and comments from other guests, not here but it should be. Extremely disappointing.
The lodge, its view, and its location were all great but I never once met staff and the room cleanliness could be greatly improved. I get that we are in a woodsy area so pests are always an issue but not dead pests on the floor after room service nor spiders and web in toiletry items for guest use. The beautiful room was not as charming as it could have been thanks to the two areas of unrepaired ceiling damage (apparently water damage). We arrived late but found our welcome envelope and room key no problem (unattended by the way). Although an odd way to pick up the key, the Lodge's location is not really one for vagrants or other malcontents, and if we had a problem, I am sure the owner/management would have responded to a call/voicemail. Office hours are also at the convenience of the owner/manager (open 0900) so they were closed when we departed. The key drop-off was also not secure but again, the beautiful location seemed untroubled with traffic and problems. I liked the potential of this lodge, its location on the river and closeness to Elkins but was disappointed in the lack of staff and the cleanliness/condition of the room for cost (about $100/night).
My wife and I, along with our daughter & son and their families spent the weekend in this cottage. We were delighted with this mountain hideaway. The grandchildren & adults had a wonderful time in the hot tube. Will be going back very soon.
