We've visited Nicolet Bay Beach within Peninsula Park several times, with and without kids. It was a great way to cool off (and clean up) when we were camping. It was a spot to show off to friends with whom we were biking. I yearn for the day when I can join the fleet of gorgeous white boats that anchor in the calm bay and enjoy the shallow sand beach.
As others have pointed out, it's wide and sandy with clear water that stays shallow for a good way from shore. Bathroom facilities are good for a campground.
I like the fact that there's a place to rent kayaks, peddleboats, stand-up boards, and Trek bikes. (Wish they'd rent small sailboats).
