“Another winner with Glass Menagerie”

Milwaukee Repertory Theater
Ranked #31 of 200 things to do in Milwaukee

I'm from out of town but whenever I get to Milwaukee I try to get to a Rep performance. The acting and stage setting are also superb. Last night we saw Glass Managerie which was so spellbinding that it seemed like the audience wasn't even breathing...or at least coughing. The theater is beautiful as is the lobby. There's even a decent sized restroom for women! I found the pre-performance talk at 6:45 pm by Kelsey Brennan quite enlightening. She's definitely an actress to follow. My friend, who is a donor, had a little thank you card and a mint on her seat when she arrived. Now that's a class act MRT!

We had a wonderful evening at the stiemke studio. The theater holds 124. Very up close and personal performances. The evening was a birthday present which made it extra special.

One of the best theaters in Milwaukee! Four venues: Quadracci Powerhouse Theater, Stackner Cabaret, Stiemke Studio and the Pabst Theatre offering the tradition of the classic A Christmas Carol, to the diversity of Fences by August Wilson. They have gotten much better over the years with the diversity of offerings and it should be applauded. Grab a behind the scenes tour if you can!

The directors crammed a lot of music and ideas into this musical revue but the biggest thrill was the musicianship. Three of the four singers were accomplished pianists as well. And a couple played ukuleles. There was even a special appearance by a bugle!

The largest venue (720 seats) is the Quadracci Powerhouse. Seating consists of comfortable theater seats, tiered in a semi-circle facing the stage. The Stiemke Studio (205 seats) consists of tiered padded seating directly facing the stage. The Stackner Cabaret (124 seats) consists of tables and chairs (uncomfortable plastic) and is also a full service restaurant and bar. We have seen productions in all venues and have enjoyed each production. The Stackner Cabaret is our least favorite venue because of the hard seating.
