I was up at the lodge recently for a wedding. The property was beautiful. Our lodge room was clean, spacious, and in great conditon. We were able to walk right out our back door to the lake. The have kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats that can be used for free. All of the staff we encountered were super friendly and accommodating. This is a beautiful location for a wedding and well worth the money to stay here!

My son and I came up to Germain for a long weekend snowmobiling trip. We had never been in the area, so I researched the various places to stay and eat before hand. Black Bear Lodge was highly praised by many different people on the web, so I took the chance and it turned out great.

At check-in we arrive a little late (they close the check-in office pretty early) and they called us on the road to verify our arrival time. They gladly stayed a little late for us and were very friendly and helpful upon our arrival. The seemed glad to have us and were very friendly/helpful).

The cabin we got was right on the (frozen) lake, which provided quick access for the snowmobiles. The cabin itself was perfect for what we needed. It was pretty basic, but clean and well kept. Our only complaint was that the flat screen was just a little larger than our laptop and from across the room, it was a little small. Although we were not there to watch TV, so it wasn't too bad for the little time we used it. Otherwise, everything worked out great.

For a snowmobiling trip this place is perfect. It's right on the lake and is part of the local trail system for immediate access anytime. You can even park your sleds right at the cabins.

We will be back again next year!

This will be my third time rating for this lodge as sometimes things change from one year to the next. This lodge has new owners and they seem to want to keep things the way they have been in the past. This is a good thing as we love this lodge and come up every year for a week of snowmobiling. The personnel is friendly and helpful. The units clean and have ample supplies for all your needs. We look forward to next winter when will be back to this lodge in the northwoods.

My husband and I took a motorcycle trip through the north woods from Minnesota to Michigan. I had looked up possible accommodations on the internet. We weren't sure how far we would travel the first day. Four hours west of St. Germain, we called Black Bear to see if there was a suite for us to stay in. The reservationist put me on hold to speak to housekeeping. They had a large party there for a week, and she wasn't sure if the suite would be cleaned in time for us. Well, yes, they had a room!
We stayed right next to the Bears Den, which is the bar and restaurant. It was exactly what we were looking for. The suite was roomy, clean, and stocked with dishes and coffee for the morning!
Joe, the bartender was friendly and attentive, not pushy. We ordered a pizza, hand made, and delicious!
We enjoyed watching the slide presentations on past guests, as well as the first snowmobile.
We think this would be a great place to stay for winter sports, fishing, or just a relaxing time as it was for us!
