It seems everyone is trying to go "retro" these days. It's the cool thing to do. The problem with that is most attempts are as fake as a Wally World main street. McGovern's Motel is cool without even trying. Because that's who they actually are: a well-preserved relic from the golden age of travel. It's still owned by the same family and very little has changed since I stayed with them on my monthly business trips in the early 80s.
You'll find old school room keys, an authentic motor lodge that doesn't scare you like the Bate's Motel, real tourist cottages and an old-school supper-club type restaurant. We got two free drink cards we we checked in for their restaurant with is also frozen in time but a warm and inviting atmosphere. The rooms and bathroom are small by modern standards but we found it to be quiet and comfortable. The rates are very reasonable and even got another $5 off with our AAA card. (Yes, we have one!).More
