Great small store which offers plenty of good foods, from organics, eggs, locally sourced grass fed beef etc

Downtown Grocery has a wide variety of organic food grown by local farmers. Next time you have an opportunity stop in and try it out. While Wausau is a relatively small town, Downtown Grocery is situated in "downtown" with a little bit of a big city feel.

Great place for lunch! I love the salad bar. They have the neatest things on it. Like beet dressing and such.

Happened on the grocery kind of by accident and were totally surprised at the wonderful variety of foods and fresh produce. The wines were so unique and varied.

I enjoyed a large helping at the buffet at the Food Bar in the Mall. Everything looked so good, I took more than I needed to eat but finished it all! Delicious, quick, simple food. Of particular note are the vegetable egg rolls and the roasted root veggies. Also, there were some nice prepared salads like three-bean and pickled veggies and all the olives you'd ever want. I felt full and satisfied and healthy. If you wanted a more decadent option, there was a cheesy veggie lasagna on the buffet as well. They have soup, too, which I didn't try. I bought a bottled beverage (Kombucha) at The Market. I did not take time to shop in the Market as this was a quick lunch stop. You can see the cooks working to prepare the buffet food. The price wasn't cheap, but that's perhaps because your plate is charged by the pound, like my local grocery store salad bar. A huge serving cost $14. I guess that's what you'd spend at Panera, anyway! Staff are very friendly.
