Fine-dining options are at a premium in Cody, but The Local is big-city good both in its ambience and kitchen creativity. It's a lively place that doubles by day as one of the town's many espresso bars and baked-goods stores, but for dinner offers up a limited but excellent menu from ingredients largely supplied by local growers. We split a tasty roasted red beet salad for an appetizer, and followed that up with a flavorful white fish curry, finished off with a palatte-cleansing and scrumptious sea salt caramel ice cream. An excellent wine list makes for great pairings with most dishes. Service was friendly and prompt. We could easily have eaten here twice over a longer stay.

Every time I eat at The Local, I'm incredibly satisfied. The food is always fresh and cooked perfectly, and the service is always fantastic. From the lamb t-bones to the scallops to the elk burger to the ceviche, Chef Ariel does excellent work bringing the modern food era into Cody and letting it thrive. We need more restaurants like this in Cody! Oh, and have you tried any of their house cocktails? The Humboldt Fog is the way to go.

Shannon was such a friendly waitress, who steered us to wine & entree selections that suited our taste. Dinner came quickly and was complimented by fresh bread & tasty salad dressings. The flakes of smoked trout on our salads were delightful. We enjoyed viewing the chefs in the background, too. Price was very reasonable for food quality. Plates were not overloaded, food was served hot, & food was presented with an artistic flare.

I am sure this place has it's following, but we found it to be pretentious, overpriced and the food options are very limited. First, we arrived at about 6:20 on a Wednesday and observed several empty tables and booths. Since we did not have a reservation, we were told that we could not be seated until 7:15. I did note that the couple ahead of us, who said they had no reservation, were greeted with a hug and given a booth right away. We declined the offer and quickly left. As we approached our car, parked across the street, the hostess came running after us to say they had a table after all. Unfortunately, we followed her back to the restaurant and sat down. We both ordered the fish tacos as there were very few reasonably priced options and many entrees that frankly just didn't sound good. The tacos were ok , but of all the fish tacos I have ever eaten, these were my least favorite. We would not even consider returning. I also see that the response by management to one of the earlier reviews was pretty rude. Goes along with the pretentiousness.

Excellent food, much like cuisine found in bigger cities. It was inventive, delicious and pretty reasonably priced. Portions were generous. I'd go back.
