“Can't Even Lock the Door!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2011

Ok, perhaps there is very little crime in "the sprawling metropolis" of Mountain View, Wyoming, but I refuse to sleep someplace where I can't lock the door!

My wife and I were invited to visit Mountain View, Wyoming for a job interview, and were placed by the interviewing company at the Country Cabins Inn to spend the night. When we arrived, we went to the check-in desk, located in the same building as the restaurant. We waited for the check-in clerk to show up at the desk, and after a time we checked with the restaurant staff. We were told to simply go to our cabin since it was unlocked and the key inside.

We moved our bags inside after finding our cabin, to find that we were not only unable to lock the door, but it wouldn't even close. Going back to the restaurant, we asked to speak with someone connected with the cabins. After waiting a short time, we were told to just move to some other cabin...the cabin number was provided to us. This cabin was clean, and comfortably furnished. There were two queen beds, a dresser, no closet but there was a hanging bar for clothes (only two hangers provided), a separate bathroom with tub and shower, and a small coffee area with table and chairs. The cabin was okay, yet comfortable.

I wondered how warm the floor would be in the winter, since there was only a through-the-wall air conditioner/heater, and the cabin was on a concrete slab. Oh, during our stay the air conditioner would not work too well.

At no time did we ever see anyone connected with the cabins, so if there was a problem in the middle of the night, we'd be out of luck since the cabin's telephone did not work. This town is in the middle of nowhere, so our cellphone did not even have service. Since our cabin's telephone did not work, we'd have some serious problems if there was a fire or medical issue during the night.

I can't comment on the cabin's staff, since we never saw anyone, but all this being said, the restaurant folks were helpful when I asked for ice...

Since there is absolutely no other hotel or motel in Mountain View, Wyoming, one really has no other choice for lodging, except to drive over to Evanston (about 45 minutes away).

Room Tip: All of the rooms are average, so you take what you can get. Hopefully, the door will close and lock...

Pluses: cute, spacious, private cabin rooms, lots of big, fluffy towels, comfy beds, beautiful wood walls and ceilings

Minuses: pricey, dusty blinds, dead flies in window sill, squeaky bathroom door

We stayed in the main building and encountered many problems during our stay. The bed broke, the lights didn't work, there was no extra toilet paper or kleenex, (not a good situation, must I say more?) it snowed and my husband ended up shoveling the walks to our car, it smelled from the restaurant below, (not good ventilation), and noisy from the room next door. (I could add even more, but will stop with these issues.) Because there was nobody in the "lobby", we had to call the number they posted on the door, but they never returned phone calls. When we returned home, I emailed them and called them regarding these issues and got NO response! I wanted to give them a chance to "redeem" themselves, but I guess they didn't care since they had our money. I plan on returning to the area because we have family there, but I will drive 20 miles, instead of staying there again.

After backpacking out of King's Peak the jacuzzi tub was great. It had a kitchenette, spacious bathroom, two queen beds, satellite TV, DVD player, and lots of room to spread out our bags.

Country Cabins Inn happened to be the only non-chain place to stay in a good location on my cross country trip. It's just off I-80 so it's a great place to stop while you're on the road. The cabin was clean and looked nearly new. There were two beds, TV with every cable channel, clean bathroom, fridge, and coffeemaker. The place is everything it looks like from the website and if you find it on google maps you can get a 10% off coupon. I highly recommend Country Cabins.
