“Pleasantly Surprised”

Natural History Museum - Western Wyoming Community College

I couldn't believe how fun this would be for me and little ones. It is also free admission. As soon as we walked in, my kids were given a little scavenger hunt map and stickers. They had to find a whole list of prehistoric creatures and dinosaurs. Watching them get excited with each find was worth it. We also had a chance to spend some time in the other museum areas such as the art gallery, wildlife exhibit, and the history of Rock Springs exhibit. There were a few employees willing to help my kids find their creatures and they were very friendly about it. I do have to say that given this was during the summer, they keep different hours than during the school year. Plus, in the summer, it is less crowded in the college. Don't forget to check out the gift shop afterwards. It was a great way to end our self-tour and grab a dinosaur souvenir.

The Natural History Museum at the Western Wyoming Community College is an interesting and free past-time. When my family comes to visit, we usually stop by to check out the dinosaurs and museum with the kids, they enjoy it and so do we!

I took my grandkids, it was pretty spread out but the college wasn't in session so there weren't many people around. It was enjoyed by all of us and we will go back and see it again as we didn't get to finish due to the two year old in tow, but even he love the dinosaurs. Plus there were other thing to see also, like art work. Worth the visiting.

Our family visited this some years ago and the kids loved it. We recently took our grandkids because they are huge dino fans. You will be delighted as you learn. The displays are local sourced. The curators are delighted to share their knowledge with you. The boys were entertained for hours. And, us big kids learned a few things too. Take time to visit. You will love it.

This is an active community college, with replica dinosaur skeletons scattered through the hallways. We have been both during a semester and off-semester. If you are there during the semester you have to realize this is a real school with students in the hallways. The exhibits include the dinosaurs, as well as some polished rock slabs and some various historical items - like cave art or mining equipment. There also is a rotating art exhibit and an excellent wildlife display. There's even an Easter Island "DumDum" statue on the grounds. The art and wildlife might be closed off-semester, so plan accordingly.

The museum is self guided using an brochure available at the entry (which you can offer a donation for). The hallways are not at right angles, so it is easy to get turned around, but that's ok, since there are displays just about everywhere.

And best of all, it is free - which turned this 3-4 rating into a five. Enjoy!
