After checking recent reviews, we chose this restaurant located in the historic Sheridan Inn. We waited at the bar, which is a beautiful piece of furniture, dating back to 1893. Several beers from local Black Tooth Brewing Co. are offered on draught. We were seated about 20 minutes later, just as the hostess had estimated. We started with a cup (which is the size of a bowl in other places!) of the Loaded Baked Potato soup, followed by their specialty Western Waldorf Salad. Both were delicious! The soup was hot, creamy, loaded with potatoes, topped with bacon, cheese and chives. The salad had a spinach base, mixed with nuts, raisins and chicken, finished with a sweet dressing. The salad was of a generous portion size, and I wasn't able to finish it all. Prices were quite affordable for the excellent quality. Highly recommend!

We are traveling though the plains and the badlands for a few days. When we travel we leave our Seattle tastes in Seattle and try to sample the best of local cuisine in restaurants that are proud to be local. The Open Range satisfies our criteria. We didn't know tonight was burger and brew special night and our waiter didn't tell us - kind of weird. We got tipped off by the restaurant being crowded with locals, mostly oldsters, around 6:30 on a Tuesday. We overheard a waiter explain to another out of town couple what all the crowd was about. We probably would not have ordered burgers but we still should have been told of the special. With one exception our food was very tasty. I had the ceasar salad with filet mignon - the meat was perfectly medium rare and flavorful - the romaine was fresh - homemade ceasar dressing - very good. My hubby had the brisket which was recommended by the waiter. It was too dry. Go with the steak. Hub's garlic mashed potatoes were good. The atmosphere is really nice - old fancy west. Overall we liked this restaurant and do recommend it although we would avoid Tuesday if you don't want the burger special.

Thank you for your kind words and review. We are glad you enjoyed the Open Range and all the history it has to offer. We apologize that your waiter didn't offer the $5 burger promo we do every Tuesday, we have spoke with them and hopefully corrected this error. Please be safe in your travels and please come back and see us when you are in the area again.

Met an old friend at the open range for lunch and to catch up. I often forget that it's an option in town and he had as well. I was reminded from Sheridan Inn's Facebook page and we couldn't have picked a better spot. Awesome atmosphere and the Waldorf salad is healthy, delicious and enough for 2 meals. Would recommend!

We went early and had no problem being seated on a Friday. The food was good and extremely hot (unlike some people on here experienced). The service was good. If I had any complaint it was that the grilled chicken on the cordon bleu was rather over cooked and therefore a bit dry.

We came here several times when it was the Chop House before the current owners took over and loved the place. We then ate at the new location of the Chop House and were very disappointed. It is good to see this pleasant restaurant back again very like the old days.

The first thing I'd like to point out is that The Historic Sheridan Inn & Sheridan Inn are the same place with Open Range, OR as the eatery. OR took over 1892 grill and before that it was the Rib and Chop House, FYI. Lol..... TripAdvisor has it Both ways thanks to some reviewers wordings and not TripAdvisor's fault. You can also find Open Range (OR) as a listing on TripAdvisor. All three are correct but again all the same. Hope this helps some travelers out.

Second is the Tuesday $5 burger special, it is just that a real Special. Lol hard to go to a fast food joint and find a Half pound burger for that cost..... as far as that goes it is hard to find this deal ANYWHERE !!!!! Food was and is Very good along with the Great service. The staff know how to treat customers because they know where their pay comes from. You, the customer. A lot of places forget this little step.
Thank you again for a great Great GREAT deal.

Thirdly, if you know nothing about the Inn make sure you ask about Kate.... They know the story... and Everyone just loves the history and Kate is a Huge part of this wonderful place...ever hear of Buffalo Bill Cody, The Wild West Show, wondered about famous Indian Chefs, gunslingers? If so then, yes, this is a must see.

Hope you enjoy, we do Every time we go and sure you will also.
