My wife and I rented the Orchid room, but Vivianne upgraded us for free to the Plumeria room (aka "Honeymoon Suite"), for a recent long weekend on the Big Island. We were very thankful for her kindness, in this regard, as our private lanai provided us with a breathtaking view of the beautiful flora of the property, along with most of Kealakekua Bay and Honaunau, and the sweeping, lush mountainside southwest of Captain Cook. We also appreciated the general intimacy of our accommodations and would recommend this establishment to anyone in search of a clean, quiet, secluded, well-maintained, romantic, nicely appointed, comfortable and unfettered stay, in a gorgeous surrounding, with very gracious and accommodating hosts. Our complaint is that, when we book a B&B, in addition to a "B"ed, we expect a relatively formal, prepared and well-presented "B"reakfast, of hopefully local flavors and fresh foods, both hot and cold, with some choices of main dish, in a group setting with other guests. It is to be both gustatory and social in content. This is an important part (50%, I would hazard) of the B&B experience; a part which we have come to expect, anticipate, and relish. We have experienced a well-stocked kitchenette at hotels and motels in the past, which rivals the refrigerated cold cereals, yogurt, muffins, and fruit supplied by the Belle Vue. We have also experienced very good complementary breakfast bars at many hotels and even some motels. It is unfortunate that we came away with a less-than-satisfied breakfast experience and is the only reason that our rating for Belle Vue was not "Excellent". Having said as much, this shortcoming would not prevent us from returning or recommending Belle Vue to others. One other comment is that we could have done without the posted threat of a punitive charge for not cleaning up our accommodations. In our opinion, this is a tacky and unnecessary piece of information, which has no place hanging in an establishment of this class. If you experience uncouth, uncaring, thoughtless clients, whom leave dirty dishes in the sink and don't empty their trash cans or whatever, then charge them after the fact and explain the reasons why or, better yet, place the warning verbiage in the initial confirmation documentation. Don't presuppose that your clientele has the potential to be low-class. It is an insult, at best.

Room Tip: Go for the Plumeria room (Honeymoon Suite), if available and the size is right for you. You'll...

What a wonderful place to stay ! A very warm welcome to accomodation and a view that was second to none pretty well says it all.

We enjoyed every moment at this well maintained property, and also enjoyed the many amenities and activities of the surrounding area.

A great place to stay !

Vivianne,
thank you for a great time at your B&B. We enjoyed the beautiful view, the birds in the garden, the quietness and the rose garden suite. The fridge was sufficiently stacked with breakfast items. No fresh muffins this time, like other fellow travelers mentioned, but enough coffee, fruit and such to have a good breakfast. The grocery store is also close by for your personal needs.
By the way, we never locked our room doors, because we felt safe at all times.

We were made very welcome on arrival and given a guided tour of our very large suite. Everywhere was very clean and the fridge was full of food for breakfast including delicious homemade muffins. The Belle Vue is a great place to tour the Kona area of Big Island or to just sit back, relax and admire the fantastic view.
I just wish we could have had at least another couple of nights there.

Aloha Viviene,

Stayed four amazing days in the Rose Garden Suite - the whole works with a fridge full of goodies including homemade muffins. We had bought groceries in Kona and found out later that there was no oven. Our host allowed us to come up and use hers with no fuse. Excellent place for grilling and enjoying the view with loved ones...the suite comes equipped with several board games for those late nights! Central location but is a drive to the beaches.

Mahalo for a great experience,
Cam & Britt

My family stayed in the Rose Garden Suite. We arrived to find a fridge full of local fruit, fresh muffins, cereal, juice and milk. Great to see after 15 hours of travel.
Viviene the host was always asking if we needed more or if we were ok with everything. In fact, her husband even went out of his way to get bananas for my daughter because their own tree wasn't ripe at the moment.
If you stay here keep in mind that there will be other guests around and so will the family that lives there. No noise was ever loud enough to disrupt my 10 days at all.
The loudest thing you will hear are the birds in the mornings and the occasional, distant rooster cry. Our living area was very clean top to bottom. The table on the lanai was great for coffee and breakfast in the morning. There is a washer and dryer on site. It costs $4.00
to do a load. Water and electric aren't cheap there so I don't mind. Plus it beats trying to go find a more expensive laundry somewhere down the road where you have to sit and wait for 2 hours. There is a drying rack in the suite that you can move outside if you choose not to use the dryer($2.00 less). Here you can start it and enjoy the view or take a hillside nap.
The location is removed from many of the attractions and will require a short to moderate drive to get anywhere. Just up the hill is a good grocery store and cheaper than the ones in Kona. Cooking will save you lots of money. The kitchen area in the suites have only two burner electric so don't expect to make a grand meal. They do have propane grills to use as well. This is plenty of option for your cooking needs while on vacation. The Belle Vue seems to be a popular spot for foreign travelers so expect to meet some cool, fun people while you are there. All in all this is one of the best places we ever stayed and plan on making many trips back until we get our butts moved there.
Aloha!

We were headed back to Kona from Volcano National Park due to rain and had no hotel room set up for that night. We searched Bed and Breakfasts and called Belle Vue. Normally places don't rent to people for one night, but we got lucky and Vivienne had space available. We stayed in a lower level suite with a nice patio and view of the bay. The refrigerator was stocked with food for breakfast and the kitchen included a stove, microwave, and all plates, cups, silverware, etc. it was a little humid in our room since there is no central air and there were quite a few bugs and a gecko, but that was my only grievance.
