My family and extended family stayed at the lodge and had a wonderful time. The lodge itself is beautiful, and all rooms, plus the outdoor shower, look out over the Pacific and you can see Maui in the distance.
We enjoyed many fruits from the garden during out stay, many of which were brand new to us.
Hawi is a lovely town, great shops and excellent food and coffee.
We spent many afternoons at HaPuna beach, which had great waves for all of us to play in ... Spencer beach had calmer water but what's Hawaii without waves?
The black sand beach south of Kona and on the way to Vocanos National Park was fascinating, huge sea turtles on the beach and in the water, and fed by fresh water springs, so the water is cooler than at the other beaches. The volcano was incredible, we were there at the end of the day, walked through the big lava tube then saw the "glow" after it got dark.
Richard and Natalie, their interns, and the pets were wonderful hosts to all of us.
Thanks so much!

Richard and Natalie along with their farm interns were very hospitable and friendly. The house is spacious, comfortable and peaceful with three bedrooms, two baths and beautiful lanai (with a hammock - aahh!) overlooking pasture, the garden and the channel between Hawaii and Maui. They have an extensive edible and medicinal garden and fledgling orchard, and sell their produce at the local farmers market and to restaurants. It was a perfect antidote to Waikiki, where we'd been the previous week! Loved the outdoor shower, and availability of fresh eggs and produce to buy from them. There was ample room for two parents, two teens, two grandparents. We enjoyed being close to Hawi town - good restaurants with focus on local and organic food, a few shops and galleries, even live music. About 30 minutes from great Kohala coast beaches, close to some historic sites, and a beautiful drive to Waimea through cattle country. (For a change of pace, try the Blue Dragon in Kawaihae for good food and drinks and dancing!) Richard also has great local knowledge and tips for places to eat and things to do on the island. Great for families or anyone who wants to chill and experience real aloha spirit.
