Jacaranda Inn
Ranked #4 of 8 Waimea B&B and Inns
Reviewed 23 August 2011

I have stayed at the Jacaranda Inn many times during the last three years. Always a special place for me because of the quiet, classy, distinctly upscale bedrooms which used to house the paniolos of the Parker Ranch. No roughing it necessary for this tired cowgirl. No other housing on the Big Island has beautiful Kohler jacuzzi tubs or well appointed antique furnishings. The weather in Waimea is the most perfect in the entire world. Cool nights snuggled under upscale bedding and waking to a misty morning perfect for a cup of Kona coffee. Restaurants are within walking distance and the owner Mary Ellen is gracious and savvy about where to find the best burgers on the island or the best beaches. This is my favorite place on the big island and I hope to return again and again. My secret garden spot.

Room Tip: Any room is a good room, but my favorite is Iris or Begonia. Or maybe staying in the cottage.

Beautifully spacious rooms. Very comfortable and well furbished.
Unfortunately it was only for 1 night but, we tried to make it last as long as possible.

We rented 7 rooms there. It was so beautiful we ended up going to every room and taking pictures there. The bathrooms are HUGE! Most of ours had a Jaccuzzi tub and spacious shower. The beds wer very very comfortable. I slept like a log. haha

Price: Sooooo inexpensive. Well worth the cost.

The owner was very plesant and very eger to show off the beautiful rooms.

The grounds need a little care but the overall place is spectacular.

I WILL RETURN!!! and this time for longer.

Thank you jacaranda inn. see you soon.

Room Tip: iris room....that was a GREAT room.

It's been a couple of years since my last visit. I opted to stay at Jacaranda Inn for 3 nights instead of the big resorts with screaming kids. Enjoyed the quiet solitude as the wind whistled through the pine trees. Stayed in the Passion Flower Suite which is a comfortable, generous space. No breakfast, no having to tip to retrieve my car, no irritating distractions. Coffee and tea are provided in the suite. Plenty of food options in town including the grocery stores. Brought back food and wine to our huge room and enjoyed dinner on the lanai. We would recommend The Gallery of Great Things and Red Water Cafe.... if you don't want to eat on the lanai....and of course Jacaranda Inn. Perfect!

This place could be a real showcase and was back 20 years ago. The owner, Mary Ellen, has been there for 17 years. In that time the place has suffered because it is way to huge to be maintained by one person.

The gardens on the grounds need TLC. The rooms need a good cleaning. The bedding in ours smelled of mildew, mold, and urine. The shower area had mildew on the floor. The shower head and water pressure were exceptional. There were cockroaches under the sink and what we think was a rag with bait on it; but not certain about the bait. The rooms and grounds look good on the surface but if you wander around there is much maintenance that needs to be done. Some of the buildings are falling apart due to neglect. There are about 15 acres and this Inn has a wealth of potential if taken over and given a major transfusion.

We paid $180.34 total for the Passion Flower room with a seperate bath/shower area for one night. It was extremely overpriced compared to what you pay in Hilo or Kona. There were less expensive rooms available at the Jacaranda Inn; but we weren't given the option to occupy one of them. We were the only guests there that night and they have 8 rooms plus a cottage. The Jacaranda Inn is listed as a B&B. There is no breakfast. No meals are served there.

The pictures posted on this site and on the Jacaranda's site are from several years ago when the place was under different ownership. The entire property is now run down. Our room had a lot of bugs in it (underneath the sink cabinet were large piles of roach feces - i killed several large spiders as well), the toilet was broken, the hot tub was broken, there was no breakfast (and it is a B & B), and when we arrived, the Innkeeper did not greet us - we had to go searching for her. That was the only time we saw her the entire time - for about 10 minutes to get our money - then we never saw her the rest of our stay. The gardens were overgrown with weeds and the entire place had the appearance of a haunted mansion. There are better choices to stay in this region - I didn't care for the region and would have preferred to spend the extra night in Kona.

"The Jacaranda Inn-Big Island of Hawaii Bed and Breakfast at Parker Ranch" is how the website described this B & B. After registering, we asked what time breakfast was served and were told, "There is no food here, you can get breakfast down the street, there's lots of restaurants." We had been spoiled by the other B and B's we had stayed in, so this was a disappointment. That being said, the Inn was an historic and very interesting old ranch house. We had the Hibiscus room, which was very quaint and well maintained. There were few guests so the big house was all ours. WiFi in the common area only. However, I thought the room was overpriced without the breakfast. I think there are better choices in the area.
