A beautifully designed cottage with plenty of large windows to let in light and surrounding views of the lush tree-fern forest and kahili ginger, and a perfect home base for activities in Volcano. Even though Volcanoes National Park was still closed when we were there because of the recent eruption, there was surprisingly plenty to see and do in the area (Volcano Garden Arts, Cafe Ono and the Volcano Arts Center in Volcano Village, Pahoa town and the Kalapana Night Market further afield). The air is fine and even the multiple small earthquakes felt throughout the day and night were more exciting than scary.
We had a wonderful stay in late June. We especially enjoyed reading the book with entries from the Volcano House guest book describing the activity at the volcano while feeling the earthquakes from the current summit collapse. We loved the art around the cottage, and we will for sure recommend this spot to anyone going to stay in Volcano.
This retreat lived up to our expectations. Very close to the National Park entrance and a quick drive to Hilo. Secluded and private and very minimalistic. We wanted to be free from technology and just relax. That was easily accomplished here. They do have WiFi for looking up places to visit or eat. The bed was comfortable and the ammenities were rustic but comfortable. If you love a mountain/tropical getaway I can’t think of a better place. Highly recommend.
Our family of three (two adults, a four year old daughter) stayed at Kipuka Cottage for two days. We fell instantly in love with it and felt at home. As there was pouring rain in Volcano, the cozy and well-equipped house felt even cozier. We were happy to find pre-dried wood to burn in the fireplace (wood directly from outside would have been too wet). And we were happy to find additional heaters as well as additional blankets for the beds, as it was quite cool and damp during our stay.
Also, we loved the location of Kipuka Cottage: Hidden in the beautiful rainforest, but still close to Volcanoes National Park (a few minutes‘ drive).
The only „minus“ during our stay was the pouring rain, but that’s definitely not Kipuka Cottage‘s fault.
Stayed here for three nights and loved this Cottage!
Absolutely quite neighbourhood. Cosy atmosphere, nicely decorated, spacious, clean and excellently equipped cottage. Large windows on either side make you feel as if you are in the middle of the trees. The bedroom located on the upper floor with windows all around was our favourite spot. (felt like sleeping in the trees!!!)
Kitchen is large, with everything you could possibly need. Beautyful pottery in kitchen. Bathroom also has huge windows with views of rainforest.
Very nice to have the music-collection available - grateful made use of the stereo set. Also a large selection of (travel)books available.
The heater in the cottage was essential, as temperatures were very cool during our stay. Once a fire was lit, it was cosy and warm in the house.
Here are a few cons: wood for heater was quite damp, wich made it difficult to light a fire (took hours to start a decent fire). Due to the excessive rainfalls during our stay, the climate within the cottage was a little bit damp.
Almost all cupboards and wardrobes in the house are full of things (coats, blankets, duvets, cushions, pillows and so on) which makes it difficult to find space for your own clothes. Nearly impossible to hang something into wardrobe.
But we had a wonderful time here and absolutely can recommend this cottage!
This place is about a 10 minute drive from Volcano's National Park. It is a beautiful cottage tugged away in the woods with maximum privacy. The unit has everything you need and is very comfortable and cozy. The picture on the website are a fair representation of the cottage. The communication with the owner was excellent. We stayed with three people (2 adults and 1 teenager) and found the unit to be m ore than adequate. We can highly recommend the cottage for your stay.
The house was great and it was in a beautiful setting surrounded by hapu fern trees and luscious jungle. It was great having the wood burning stove and the kitchen was well equipped. We were disappointed that the internet didn't work because we were going to veg out with some Netflix on my tablet but we read books instead which was ok. The place felt nice and secluded and cozy. I really liked it.
