You can't beat the price, the views or the people that run this golf course. We played other courses on Kauai but had the most fun playing Kukuiolono.

What a deal …$9 for golf in Hawaii!! The Kukuiolono Golf Course in Kauai is an excellent value, and may be the best golf value in Hawaii. It is a 9 hole regulation length course that operates on a first come first serve basis. I played there twice (Saturday and Monday) on my recent trip and walked right on both times. I have played golf all over Hawaii (usually costing in excess of $150 per round) and while the Kukuiolono Golf Course is not a Nicklaus, Rees or Jones design it is pretty good golf and the scenic views on this course rival those of the Plantation course at Kapalua. The Wailua municipal course on Kauai is also an excellent value at about $40 for 18 holes (if you can get a tee time).

Kukuiolono offers rental clubs for $9 and you can get pull carts or golf carts if you want to ride. I only played 9 holes each time I visited but I was told you could play on without paying an additional green fee; however you do have to pay for any rented equipment each time you go around.

An excellent overall eperience on an average course. This course is a great place to get the rust off your golf game at low cost while enjoying a pleasant outing with family or friends. There is a reasonably priced driving range to get yourself ready for the 1st tee. Pull carts are available @ $3 if you feel like walking but didnt bring a carry bag.

This is a historic course, as it tis the first ever established in Hawaii. This is not your typical Hawaiian plush resort course, but rather more of a rough edged muni. But remeber you get MORE than you pay for here. When I last played in NOV 08 the greens were in better shape than the past; so conditions may even turn out better than earlier reports. Do expect windy conditions unless you play in the AM. If you play later in the day you may be behind a slow tourist group or two. Relax and enjoy the views.

My son and I played our first round of golf on this course in March '08. Tripadvisor user recommended the course. Lots of chickens--like everywhere else on Kauai. We rented a golf cart for $9 and paid $9 each for green fees. The golf cart actually slowed us down. A local (on foot) was playing with us and was almost always waiting for us to catch up, but our slowness and lack of skill didn't seem to bother anybody. We've played several times since back home, but this course will always have a special place in our memories.

Kukuiolono is a 9 hole course willed to the state for the people of Kauai in 1920 or so. It is to remain low cost in perpetuity. This means, of course, low maintenance as well. That said, we had enough fun playing the course that we did it twice on this trip.

The cost is $9 per person, plus $8 for the power cart. The fairways are wide, though several have severe right-to-left slopes (or vice versa) which narrows them for all practical purposes as a ball may easily roll into the very thick native vegetation. Being on a hilltop, it is up and down, also. There is no water, and few traps, still it is an interesting course with a few challenging holes and some nice views. It is probably best suited for medium to high handicappers (like my wife and myself).

The wind seems to be always blowing, and the course is laid out acknowledging this fact, with both long and short par 4's. While both the fairways and greens could use more maintenance, this fact did not hinder our enjoyment of playing the course.

There are rental clubs, but we were told that they are not always available. There is also a cafe which was quite crowded with locals on our last visit. They serve a pretty good hamburger at a pretty good price.
