Owner description: Take an eco-adventure Kayak/Hike to a Secret Waterfall! Among all the rivers available to adventure seekers, the Wailua River Valley seems to be one of those special places. Kayak 4 miles roundtrip on a Class Zero river, combined with a 1.5 mile moderate to strenuous hike through a tropical rainforest, wading through streams, and traversing muddy trails to get to the beautiful 120' Uluwehi Falls.

Our tour guide, Eric, was not concerned with our safety at all. Several people were having great difficulty with the hike up the mountain and he would not help us. He insisted that he was there to only guide the tour and not there to help us up the hillside path. In addition, he continuously complained about how the “white people” robbed the native Hawaiians of their heritage and customs and culture. He was terribly negative and quite prejudice against non Hawaiians. The whole experience was very uncomfortable and really unenjoyable. On top of it being an unpleasant experience, he did not stick to the schedule and ended up causing us to return 3 hours after the time we were supposed to finish.

For obvious reasons this review set off some major alarms in our family-owned company.

Safety has always been our top priority and we will never compromise. This affords the opportunity to reemphasize that this tour is not a walk in a park, it's categorized as a MODERATE to STRENUOUS trail. Participants need to be willing to traverse some muddy terrain with a few level changes.

This leads me to our final point, in the reviewer's words we are being "prejudice against non Hawaiians" and "his continuous complaining of white people." This was so shocking to us that we arranged for a family meeting to find out more. Up to this point in time Eric has been one of the most requested Guides with 100's of five star reviews from people all over the world, to include a few five star reviews from this very tour in question. According to Eric he simply responded to a question from another guest on the same tour of the historical facts of how Hawaii and how it became what it is today. Unfortunately, Hawaii's history includes the January 17, 1893 hostile takeover of the Hawaiian Monarch by American businessmen and if asked we would never try to fabricate historical facts! Having said this, our entire family are proud to be American Citizens and we do not possess any ill feelings towards and particular ethnic group or race.

Had a great time. Our guide was great. He even caught crabs out of the water. The waterfall was a great hike to get to. Well worth it.
