I travel the work for work and mostly stay at Marriott properties, especially a lot of Courtyard's. I had points to use so I booked two rooms for our stay in Kauai last week. I read all the reviews and my expectations weren't too high going in, but I was very surprised on how the nice the property was. For a very reasonably priced (for Kauai standards) property located right on the beach, this property was perfect for us. Yes, the rooms are a bit on the small side, and the bathrooms are small as well, but the rooms were in really good condition and very well maintained. The property itself is very well maintained and clean, the bar and food service was good and the overall friendliness of the staff was very good. Overall we enjoyed our stay at this property and would have no issues staying here again if we come back to Kauai.

Aloha Eric H, So great to know you had a very nice stay! It is wonderful to hear that you found the property very well maintained and clean and the overall friendliness of the staff was very good! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Please note that our entire property – including all guest rooms and public areas - will begin a major renovation in the Fall of 2018 with an expectation of being complete First Quarter 2019. The transformation will be done in phases, with the property remaining open. The bathrooms will be getting a sliding door, making the bathroom feel larger. We look forward to wowing you during your next visit to the Garden Island! Mahalo and a hui hou, Karen

The courtyard has a great location right on the beach and easy to get to from the airport. The staff is welcoming and friendly. The rooms are a little dated, but I believe it will be undergoing to renovation soon. IMO although slightly dated, still nicer than most hotels on Kauai

I feel this courtyard doesn't get the respect it deserves. ALL of Hawaii is expensive and most of the hotels are out of date. This courtyard offers a nice place to stay in a great location for a reasonable price (compared to other Kauai hotels). The pool isn't the biggest, it doesn't have the "resort feel" but if you are coming to Kauai to sit around the hotel, you are doing something wrong. Go out and explore the Garden Island! I would have no problem staying here again.

Balcony was supposed to be “ocean view” but hardly a ocean view as it was on the side if the hotel. Only way to have a view is to hang over the balcony.

Rooms are smaller than most hotels. Bathroom allows for only one person at a time due to size. Hallways and exterior are dated.

Charged $20 resort fee for things like parking and WiFi. Returned from a long day of sightseeing and hiking to find the parking lot full. Charge a fee yet no spots when you need it.

When we reserved the hotel room, we reserved an ocean view room with a balcony. We arrived early in the morning and completed the sign n process (let us know about the resort fee, the amenities and taking down a phone number should they need to reach us) and were told that they would let us know when the room was ready. We were going to be here for 5 days. We finally got into the room and the room was a little small and definitely dated, but comfortable enough--after all, we weren't going to spend much time in the room. The balcony has two chairs on them that barely fit and one has to maneuver to sit on the balcony with the chair. The balconies are very small. Our view was of the pool and of the ocean. The pool had people in it until well after 11 pm. We also did not need to go downstairs to hear the nightly entertainment because we could hear it just fine, even with the balcony door closed. The bathroom is exceptionally small and yo cannot sit on the toilet and open the door, if its closed or close the bathroom door, if it is open. Wall to wall, the bathroom is no more than 6 ft by 6 ft (at most!),
On the second day there we were talking to someone at the front desk about our stay and she volunteered to move us to a better rom with an unobstructed view of the ocean. She told us we could move into the room the next day to move rooms, For what it is worth the room we were in (on the third floor) was not a bad room, it would have been nice to have an unobstructed ocean view room, so we agreed to move. We left the hotel to explore the island and came back to the hotel late afternoon. We went to the front desk to be moved into our new room. We were told at that tie that the room was occupied by other guests because they were not able to reach us and we hadn't packed and weren't ready to move. We hasn't packed up the room because we weren't told to do so. We were told to check back with the front desk. They did call the room, which did no good because we weren't in the room and the had our number on file and could have reached us, if they wanted to do so. We were promised a new room for the next date, and this time we were told to pack our belongings in anticipation of the move. When we came back, the gave us our new room, which was on the first floor (south side, with a view of a green fence and random people passing by the room. I went back to the front desk and told the front desk that this room was unacceptable and I felt unsafe being on the first floor. The got the manager ((he never identified himself by title or name-so the thought he was the manager is a presumption), who blamed us for not being ready the day before. I tried to explain to him what happened and he proceeded to tell me how difficult it was to give us a room when they were at 100% capacity. After trying o explain to him what and that we weren't ready to move because we were just told to come back to the front desk, he explained that the front desk person had not given us correct information and that he had a discussion with her earlier. After seeing and hearing that I was not happy being told one thing and having another happen; he told me (snidely) "well, we are here now" and asked me what I would have him do. It seems as if he would have offered something- a free breakfast or drink coupons, something to rectify the situation. He offered nothing and put us in a room on the south side-3rd floor. He offered nothing to try and make the situation better or make me feel better about what happened. I asked if there was an ocean view and he told me, there was if I leaned over the balcony. That wasn't a pleasant exchange. There is a restaurant and a bar in the hotel. There are also ice machines (the one on the third floor was out for at least 2 days) and a washer and dryer on the 2nd and 4th floors. They will exchange your money for coins and they have detergent available for purchase.
There is a CVS right across the parking lot from the hotel and there is a shopping center with a Safeway, Starbucks and a Ross about 1/2 mile away. In the morning there is free coffee, tea and assorted breads available for free. The prices for breakfast ae about average and the restaurant is very polite and attentive. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast buffet because it just did not seem worth the money--very rarely are the breakfast on menu a better value than the buffet and in this case it is. There are a few breakfast restaurants nearby. Check with the concierge-not the front desk personnel, her suggestions were much better. The rooms absolutely need to be updated. The last room they put us in had a big chunk out of the armoire at the bottom, which made the room look kinda tacky.

Room Tip: Rooms with a pool/ocean view can be noisy. The "view" from the rooms on the 1st flr-south side will be of a green fence.

Not bad, but not great. Ocean view balconies can only fit one person. Ice machine do want work. Washing machines are probably from the 60s... just for the price, doesn't knock your socks off.

This side of the island is very wet. Would reccomend staying on the other side.
