“Fantastic value-back nine is as good as anywhere”
Reviewed 7 July 2011

We stay next to poipu bay golf. If it cost $300 to get to puakea(20 minutes drive) we'd still come out ahead. The back nine at puakea is just as good. The front nine is absolutely fine but there are a few holes that aren't so pretty as they are near shopping area.
Great course, fantastic value. Very friendly. No attitude like poipu bay.
By the way, the steep downhill par 3 is 2 clubs different for the hill!

“Puakea Golf Course in Lihue”
Reviewed 14 October 2010

I just played this great course and it's very nice and awesome ( $65.00 Cart incl ) value. I played from the blues, and they made it a little long for my game but none the less had a good time. The greens were kinda slow, it took me all day to figure the speed out ( never really did ) and there are a few hairy holes ( bunkers ) out there, however many holes can be had, the par 5's are green lights.......If only I could putt !!!! ...there are many deep bunkers and I suggest you avaoid them or you are gonna pay for sure....the rough is a bit tough too, with many awkward lies....keep it in the fairways and you'll light this course up..overall experience was positive. There isn't much of a club house or locker rooms, so you should come prepared to play.... Willie the starter was very friendly and helpful....the wind was light, however, it was hot,

“Great course in Kauai”
Reviewed 28 April 2010

Played Puakea today for the second time and still love this course. The staff at the course is great and the practice range gives you an opportunity to warm up nicely before the round.

You start with a nice Par 4 that has a creek just before the hole and a great elevated shot on #6 makes for a great front nine. Homes are in place and being built, but in most cases, they are far enough back that they don’t come into play.

The back 9 is more natural, but you can get into trouble. Number 11 is a par 5 with quite a few fairway bunkers and an elevated green. Getting away with Par is great on this hole. Number 12 and 13 share the same water feature and it just gets better as you play. The mountain range and ocean views are great.

I love playing golf in Kauai; Poipu, Kiahuna, Princeville and even Kukuiolono are great courses. Puakea is definitely in my list of courses to play in Kauai. I am looking forward to going back again before we leave.

“Puakea is a gem of a golf course”
Reviewed 20 July 2009

A great bargain to play golf here ($59 after 2pm including cart). And you can reserve tee time online at their website www.puakeagolf.com Good driving range, pitching/chipping/bunker area, and practice putting green. Super friendly and helpful staff. Not an ocean course like Wailua but still windswept. Rolling terrain is links-like and a couple of holes with some real elevation change. Plus plenty of water in play. This is truly a golfer's golf course. Pretty much every club in the bag comes into play. Good shots are rewarded. Stray shots aren't overly punished, but you have to be able to recover from trouble. Being able to hit the both high and low is a big plus to deal with wind conditions. Bring your short game. A few highlights ... Number 6 is a short/medium (depending on where the tees are) downhill par 3 over water with not a whole lot of bailout room in any direction. Number 7 an uphill par 4 with a forced carry tee shot over a small canyon. And number 13 is a medium length par 3 with a narrow chute and water in front and on the left. Even if you're playing Princeville, Poipu, Kauai Lagoons, and Wailua, you should also play Puakea if you're on Kauai.

“Puakea...nice course, better value”
Reviewed 31 December 2008

The course was surprisingly nice. I've played all the high end courses on Kauai and Puakea ranks up there with them all. The scenery isn't the ocean but, the mountain range constantly in the background does just fine. Greens were very good. I was very pleased. I played 5 rounds in one week on the island and I was happy to have a change of pace that cost a little bit less. Look for coupons for the course. Our hotel concierge had a coupon provided by the course.

Nice carts, no fancy frills but, definitely worth playing.
