After reading the reviews we decided to rent from an owner so we could garuntee the condo we were going to be in and get a better rate than what the rental companies charge. All the owners have pictures of the inside of their unit and we picked out a nice one in the back that was close to the beach and swimming/tennis club. This, gang, is the way to go!! Save money and garuntee the quality of the inside of the unit. I've never seen a bad one at the Kiahuna yet. Our owner rents through Outrigger and they were great.

We still got all the amenities of the resort, no daily maid service but who cares when your saving huge bucks??

Go to the farmers market at the ballpark every Monday at noon, what a treat and great, great produce, fruit and flowers.

Shop at Safeway in Kapaa, avoid Big Save in Koloa if you can. Prices too high.

Be sure to eat at Keokis which is right across the street, fun bar and free music Thursday-Saturday.

I saw the review on the spraying, Hawaii has bugs so they can spray away as far as I'm concerned. I never noticed any chemical smell, haven't read anyone else say that either.

This is a mixed review. The location and our exact condo (which is unusual because it has been beautifully updated) is wonderful. Maid service has been very good.
I'm worried about the amount of "chemical" that the staff sprays daily ("management makes us.)" I just had to leave our room again because the two rooms next to us were again sprayed. Isn't it well known that this is a risk to our health and certainly the staff's health?

These condos are tired. Only the ones that are updated are OK. I don't want to spend a couple of weeks paying $200 plus for a drab and depressing place. The nice thing is that there is a wonderful cross breeze in these old fashioned buildings that is so refreshing.

I hope this place returns to better conditions soon.

The location of these condos is really nice. The beach is perfect for surfers and snorkelers alike. We saw whales and turtles from the surf.

We stayed in condo number 175. It is a ground floor one bedroom unit. Very clean and came with everything you needed including umbrellas for the beach. The only disappointment was that the room was considered an ocean view unit. Our view was very nice green lawn area and was about 100 feet around a slight corner from our lanai to the edge of the beach. So on a clear day you could see a bit of water on the horizon between the ocean front condo and some palm trees. We did talk to the Castle front desk when checking out and were told that any unit you can see any piece of water is considered an ocean view, no matter how small. To get the full on sandy beach and ocean view you must book an ocean front condo. And they also suggest requesting a second floor unit to get a better view.

We ate at the Plantation Garden Restaurant on the grounds. Very elegant, Hawaiian feel to the restaurant. The food was great. I would recommend the fish dishes.

The new pool is nice and has a restaurant attached. But the location of the pool is not the easiest to get to. Too far to walk for my 76 year old parents. So we drove and it was fine. Great slide for the kids.

Again, very happy with our location and the unit, just not the view. We would go back again.

1. Plantation style rooms with no air conditioning. This means that you have to open the windows. If you are a privacy or security needy person, don't stay here. This place is VERY different from the Hyatt and Sheraton resorts next door to it. To each there own. I much prefer the look/feel of this place to those rather sterile resorts.

2. Condo we stayed in was cheap; $230 per day for a unit the same as one next door that was on the market for sale for $510,000!

3. We rented through Grantham's representing a private owner. Charming upper unit with ocean view. (#138). All amenities that a guest would need. A bathroom reno is overdue however, particularly bathtub/shower area. Given conditions in the area, wall to wall carpeting also took me by surprise. Wood or tile floors should be considered. One bedroom, nicely furnished living and dining area. Kitchen has dated '80's style cupboards. Huge lanai.

4. Excellent beach out front, but not suitable for the littles ones (everybody over 10 years of age loves the place).

5. Ate at The Beach House down the road, much better the last time-7 years ago (I understand that it has changed ownership). Not recommended. Oh yes, a tip to the men there wearing ball caps for dinner in the evening. Please, if I'm in a place where the cheapest wine is $45 and entrees start at $29, and there is valet parking, I don't expect to see men wearing ball caps!!!!
