Stayed here April 1,2,3 2012 with Perillo tours. Hotel was first class all the way. Food was excellent.Italian restaurant was one of the best I have ever experienced. Breakfast buffet was good but needed more than one omelet chef when busy. Food was very expensive at pool and in library lounge. Room was clean and very comfortable. Beach was beautiful but to rough to swim. Lagoon pool was beautiful but I would not allow ball play and paddle boats as kids were reckless and took away from a relaxing swim, since this was the only place to swim ( beach was to rough). Hotel should have a trolley or shuttle to town which was about two miles away. Golf was excellent and very reasonably priced for resort golf. Only complaint is that I would make the lagoon pool and adult pool. Kids had a water slide and kids pool for use and did not need to take over the lagoon pool as well.

Kauai in and of itself is a magical, low key island where no building can be taller than the tallest palm tree which I have heard is only 4 floors....no high rises here, and wow is it fabulous. If you want, rest, relaxation and plenty of clear warm water pools with slides to splash around in, this is your place. The rooms are large enough, very clean and comfortable and the staff is top notch. The grounds are impeccable and there are several choices of places to eat, high end to outdoor coffee shops on and off campus all in walking distance. The Napali Coast catamaran ride was majestic and the hundreds of dolphins following the boat was so exciting. We've been a few times and will stay there on our next trip back to this island that not only allows you to relax, it invites you to!

Room Tip: Definately full ocean view, worth the price!

Aloha!

Mahalo for your review of your stay here with us at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa.

Experiencing Kauai is something that we wish for everyone and you've extended a wonderful invitation to all who read your review. We thank you for the kind words you've shared not only about our resort, but the island as well.

While the Na Pali coast is certainly majestic in itself, enjoying it in the company of dolphins makes the experience even more fantastic, and we're thrilled that you had such an incredible adventure.

As you have extended the invitation to Kauai, we in turn extend to you an open invitation to join us whenever you make it to Kauai.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt from 3-25-2012 to 3-30-2012. We had a club room for 2 nights and ocean suite for 3 nights. Both rooms had access to the grand club lounge which was wonderful. Traveling with a 3 1/2 year old, it was so nice to go to lounge for breakfast, snacks, and nightly appetizers and desserts. The staff at the resort was wonderful and the staff in the lounge was so helpfull and welcoming. The resort is so beautiful and we didn't mind the walking part, as some reviewers complain about the size and distance to pools. We enjoyed the stroll each day. I have to stay the ocean club room was fine but a very basic room that looked a little dated and I m not a fan of shower curtains b/c they can smell after a while but we didn't spend a lot of time in room. The suite was absolutely perfect and a HUGE upgrade compare to room. Our 3 year old loved the resort and mommy and daddy were very pleased as well. We are looking forward to our next trip visiting the Grand Hyatt Kauai.

Room Tip: Worth it to get an ocean view room.

We had a wonderful week at the Grand Hyatt -- kids all had a blast (ages 10, 7 and 5). We went off site to surf, helicopter, and catamaran tour of the Napali Coast, but otherwise we stayed onsite and enjoyed the pools, lagoon, beach, and tide pools. Highly recommend this hotel for families.

Room Tip: We enjoyed being in the Poipu wing. A bit farther away yet we appreciated walking to and from. Kids...

When I was planning my trip, I had a hard time figuring out just what you got for the extra money when you paid for the Club room. So I'm going to make this review mainly about that. I've stayed here four times over the last 15-20 years. Even honeymooned in 2002. I've loved exploring the grounds, using the pools and hot tubs, and eating in the restaurants. But this time I was content to do less roving because the grounds are so spread out. I therefore booked a Club access room so I wouldn't have to go all the way to the lobby every time I wanted anything. It turned out to be an excellent decision for us (might not be the right choice for you). We are an older retired couple with no children in tow.

If you stay in a deluxe ocean or ocean view room, you may very well end up in the Poipu wing. The Poipu wing is quite removed from the lobby/pool/restaurants, but it has three things going for it, besides the rooms with great views: the lack of noise, the proximity to the spa and the proximity to the Club lounge.

The spa offers a great deal to both men and women that you might not realize. My husband is not the "spa" type, so I didn't realize before how much he would gain. Club access gave us unlimited access to the spa...which was just a very short hop across a back courtyard from our room. This whole spa area is limited to adult patrons. Spa access meant that we could use the open-air lap pool there (very quiet and serene, really liked it), the chaises by that pool (always plenty of availability), the two co-ed hot tubs right there by the pool (very very clean, soothingly hot like a hot tub SHOULD be). We enjoyed that very much. We always had a hot tub to ourselves. You can have food delivered here from room service (there are tables and chairs for this purpose on the shaded portion of the pool deck), and also there is complimentary coffee, tea, water, etc. In addition, you have full use of the fitness/workout center there, the saunas, and the gender-specific hot tubs, located in the private portion of the spa. Lovely lava-rock showers with every bath amenity you could wish for available to you in the locker room. Very helpful and friendly attendants there. I felt quite at home.

We did not have spa treatments, so I can't evaluate those services.

The Club Lounge is not ultra-fancy or the food offerings overly gourmet. However, we liked it very much. Understand that you will not be offered free alcoholic beverages, but the wine was only five dollars a glass, so you can see it is quite reasonable given the price of beverages elsewhere in this hotel. Be forewarned that all food/beverage costs in this hotel are on the high side (to say the least).

What you DO get is access to a place to gather, relax in comfort, watch TV, read a variety of newspapers from New York, San Francisco, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, local papers, etc. There is always at least one person on duty, and often several, to attend to your concierge-type needs. The complimentary coffee machine is available all day long and provides many satisfying choices, from regular coffee to lattes, to cappucino. Soft drinks, bottled water and juices, etc. of course, and exotic teas. There are books available to borrow from the bookshelves and return at your leisure. There is also an outdoor patio with a lovely view and tables/chairs. The food is of good quality.

Breakfast in the Lounge consisted of a modest continental breakfast with one hot dish, which changed daily. Usually something on the order of a poached-egg with sauce or hash type dish, kept pleasingly warm in a small chafing dish, replenished often. A few muffin choices or pastries, and some Asian dishes as well (like miso soup). The usual yogurt, toast and bagels, hot oatmeal, and some excellent granola offerings with high-quality toppings. Some whole fruit (oranges, bananas) and sometimes papaya. Small, but very well-tended by the attentive staff there.

Snacks after noon were modest and limited. Chocolate chip cookies and brownies, fruit, nuts, for example. But all very tasty and fresh.

Late afternoon/early evening appetizers included one small hot meat/fish dish (such as pork fried rice, or bar-b-qued chicken thighs or the like), some excellent aged cheeses, proscuitto ham and other fine deli meats, plump giant green and black olives, nuts, home-made island chips, some herbed breads, and rolls. Limited selections, but definitely much better quality than your average super-market kind of spread found in so many other places.

Dessert offering later in the evening usually consisted of two or three choices. Banana-nut pie, cheesecake, brownies/cookies, pineapple upside-down-cake. It changed often.

So there you have it. The ladies who keep the lounge going are very personable. I found the atmosphere there to be very welcoming and pleasant. We never went hungry. It was a pleasure to be able to get a good cup of latte any time I wanted it. It was also good to have a place to sit together, since our room had a king size bed and queen size bed, but only one chair. We could skip over to the spa in our bathing suits anytime we wanted without having to go through public areas. A quick change of clothes and we were in the Club Lounge for refreshments. All in all, a great experience for people who are not looking for crowds, noise, and excitement. It is not for everyone. Note: Some Club rooms are on different floors from the actual Club Lounge...you still might have to walk a little way and take an elevator to get to it, but it's still much closer than having to go all the way to the public areas of the hotel.

Hope this helped fill in a gap most reviewers don't cover. We concluded it was well worth the extra cost per day for Club Access, especially since we were going to book an ocean-view category room anyway.

Room Tip: Poipu wing rooms are quieter, but require more walking. Not all O/V room views are equal. Ask lots o...

Just returned from what I believe is my sixth trip to the Grand Hyatt. If you've not been to Hawaii, I can't recommend another place any more than this one. If you have children the pool(s) area - river, pool, tide pool, multiple hot tubs - is unlike any other you've experienced. Heck, forget the kids, it's great for adults. There are no swim up bars but you can walk up to food and drink in two different locations next to the water.
Advice to Hyatt: The pay/ordering process in the lower restaurant could use some work. Wait can be too long with only one cashier.
The entry way to the resort, a grand view through a landscaped, parrot filled walk-way out into the majesty of the Pacific, is one of a kind. Breathtaking.
The rooms are comfortable. The service is typically completed by early afternoon. The restaurants are plentiful but make reservations early especially if you want to sit on the - recommended - terrace area under the night sky. The health club is excellent - never had a moment when I couldn't get on the equipment and the spa is refined and comfortable. Spa pool is the ultimate get away from the main pool area.
There was no rush to claim seats during a busy week. People really didn't show up until after 9. There are a variety of pool and lagoon seating areas and one adult area. Just depends on how much company you want.
Get an ocean facing room. The hotel landscaping is absolutely the best.

Room Tip: Ocean side really very nice and rooms on the outside of the core of the hotel give you more privacy.
