Skip the online check in, you will not get an email that your room is ready, front desk staff was less than helpful, kinda their doing you a favor for checking you in. Kudos to the Avis rental staff, outstanding and super professional. Food was great, nightly entertainment on terrace a hit. The sushi restaurant was absolutely delicious and welcoming. The lagoon a must, all pools were great. Not an overly crowded place at all. Koloa and shops just a skip away. Waimea Canyon just a short scenic drive away, Hanalei Bay also very doable by car and worth it. Housekeeping staff were awesome, fitness center was also great less the parents wanting to babysit their kids on the treadmill during busy times, an annoyance for sure. All in all a great choice, more training to front desk staff would be a plus to eradicate their condescending attitude. Guava cheesecake to die for.....

Grand Hyatt Kauai
I stayed at the Grand Hyatt for 4 nights in September. The hotel is conveniently located in Poipu, about 35 minutes from the airport and an easy hour-ish drive from the attractions of Waimea canyon.

The Great:
- Landscaping: Absolutely stunning.
- Customer focused staff mentality
- The “Grandeur” of this Upscale property: there isn’t a camera lens wide enough that can portray how beautiful and grandiose this property is.
- The pools, especially the saltwater lagoon
- The numerous filtered water stations with complimentary water bottles
- Toiletries and Nightly turndown service (the frickin’ Honolulu cookies are FANTASTIC)
- The oversized bath robes were excellent

The good:
- Ease of self parking
- The wide white sand beach (swimmable, but potentially treacherous)
- The rooms: could use a little updating, but being overly critical would be complaining for the sake of complaining. You don’t come to Kauai is hang out in the room.

Needs improvement:
- The breakfast felt overpriced (even by Hawaii standards). There were several options and a build your own omelette station, however a price in the 20’s as opposed to 30’s feels more appropriate.
- Wristbands for the pool and towels: With beaches being public, I understand why Hyatt institutes this practice; doesn’t mean I like or agree with it. The wrist bands feel bush league for a property so upscale.

We stayed at three different Hyatt properties on three different islands during this trip and there is no doubt in my mind that the Grand Hyatt Kauai is the flagship property. Everything about this hotel is top notch, from check-in through check out. Combined with the Kauai’s natural beauty and laid back, breezy style The Grand Hyatt is a breakfast that’s $10 cheaper from being Heaven in earth. I’m already planning my return trip.

Room Tip: The property is sprawling. Take this into consideration at check in if walking 1/4 mile or more is a problem.

For those interested in a island marathon or half marathon, the Kauai event hosted by the Grand Hyatt should be on your bucket list. This is my favorite resort without question. The recreation facilities are great for kids and adults. The relaxing atmosphere is perfect for anyone in need of a vacation.

My friend & I walked over & had Starbucks coffee at the Hyatt. What beautiful surroundings for relaxation! Everywhere you look is grand & luxurious. My friend has stayed there many times & highly recommends the Tidepools restaurant.

Highly rated and over priced. The room was a typical hotel room but $450 a night. One would think at least the rooms would have decent coffee, but sadly, no.
Ten o’clock at night all we could hear were a bunch of drunken bros and their ladies shouting four letter words at the top of their lungs, even with all windows closed.
Clearly a disappointment. If you are going to spend the money, spend it elsewhere.
