“Unique place”
Reviewed 13 October 2011

Very special resort on the South Side. Two nicely arranged buildings with several apartments – all equipped with everything needed for both overnight or permanent stay. Each apartment has different owner so although architectural pattern might be similar but the interior arrangement, décor and details are different, reflecting their style. Not all apartments are for rent.
All apartments are either ocean view or ocean front and it really means it: ocean front is just few meters from the breaking waves. This proximity of the ocean made us to return many times and discover other unique advantages of this place. Every apartment has private lanai. Sitting on the lanai you might watch turtles. If you are lucky you might see dolphins hunting barracudas, wintertime whales, part of the year also sun set. The view from ocean front units is spectacular, 180 degrees, from Makahuena with its breaking waves, Sheraton’s The Point, almost up to Spouting Horn on the other side. The other building has also great view but it is more isolated from the sounds of ocean, what might be both advantage and disadvantage, depends what you like.
Location is also great, on the mostly sunny part of Kauai. End of the quiet road, private property, no traffic. Very close to Kukui Ula shopping village with all shops and excellent restaurants as well as to other attractions of this part of the coast, including Spouting Horn, botanical garden, Poipu, Koloa and to the East – picturesque, hidden beaches, not all of them accessible by car however.
The place has its own simple rules everyone has to observe; all together make it isolated, quiet and peaceful retreat. It is also very well equipped. Swimming pool, the only one with heated water on the island, Jacuzzi, barbeque grill, daily housekeeping etc.
There is also great staff who really likes what they do. We like the gardener who takes care for the little garden and all greens on the property, effective housemaids, maintenance guy who keep everything working perfectly and most of all admin/front office people – all of them love the island and know it very well so they are always of excellent advice and guidance. Thanks to them we learned much more of the island than from books and guides and we always feel here as coming back home.
Few years ago they were closed at the time we wanted to visit Kauai. Knowing it in advance we went the South Side almost house by house looking for matching location and we find none. Whalers Cove combination of the ocean, resort itself and its people is unique.

Had another amazing stay at WC! A quick 3 day weekend to see the Kauai Marathon! Unit 230 was perfect-very well appointed. The service is always 5*. Aileen at the front office was so professional and accomodating and the daily room service is a huge bonus. Loved watching the spinner dolphins from the lanai..the sunsets and most of all the tranquility! Never disappointed..it is a kama'aina favorite!

Room Tip: every condo has an ocean view

Awesome place. We stayed in unit 132 and it was nothing short of perfect. The sight and sound of the nonstop crashing waves was unforgettable. The unit itself was spacious, spotless and felt like a home instead of a vacation villa. We tried not spending a lot of time in the condo (since there is so much to do around the island), but what time we did spend there was fabulous. Unforgettable views, but since we were facing south, we didn't get the sunsets from our lanai. Didn't matter, we still loved the place and would love to live there.

Our say at Whales Cove was everything that we had hoped it would be. Our condo 233 was the perfect ocean front accomdations. We loved to set on your lanai each day and watch the turtles and waves crash on the rocks. The staff was warm and personable, who loving care for this home away from home. We can't wait to come back in the winter to watch the whales from our lanai.

Room Tip: building 2 allows you views of whales cove and the ocean

We stayed at whalers cove for a night and a day and it was by far the best resort we stayed at on the island. We stayed there in a two bedroom condo, with a beautiful view of the ocean. two bedroom with a kitchen and living room. very spacious and very relaxing. This resort has a pool area, over looking the cove and the ocean, and also had access to the ocean. very clean and very nice. Very Nice staff. all friendly. Also a great place for snorkeling and scuba diving

Well we are not sure how you beat Whalers Cove (we stayed in #130), no car noise, this boutique resort is amazing. You will love Marianne and Aileen, become addicted to the sunsets and afternoons by the pool, watching the turtles that live in the lagoon or a wonderful dinners either out of on your lanai. We spent a lot of time discovering the island, spent a day on a secluded beach, played golf at Popui Bay, dinner at Beachhouse and lunch at Joe's on the Green. Each morning we walked down to the Spouting Horn and then planned over daily Event. Lots to do for adults-kids will like the ATV or Zip Lines. Our favorite day was the Makana boat trip up the Napali Coast-incredible. Another adventure was attending the Koloa Missionary Church on Sunday, Aloha is definately alive at Whalers Cove-We are already planning to come back!

Room Tip: Book direct, all are oceanfront.

We had a wonderful time at Whalers Cove! Our condo had a beautiful ocean view and nice comfortable furniture. We enjoyed coffee on the balcony each morning. The condo was very quiet and the pool was never busy. We enjoyed swimming late in the afternoon and having the jacuzzi all to ourselves.
We saw lots of turtles as they were swimming into Turtle Cove. We were able to watch the Kauai Marathon from our balcony. It was exciting to see the runners on their last mile.
Marianne, the on-site manager, and Eileen were very welcoming and always helpful. I recommend booking directly with the resort so that they can help you if you have any questions or need anything. You will also have housekeeping each day and fresh towels if you book through the resort.
We definitely made the right choice with Whalers Cove. We liked everything about it. We were sad to leave. We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to all--unless you are looking for a party atmosphere.
