I have been told that this is a must see while on the island however today was not the day. It was wet and foggy. Maybe another trip is in store for us.

We were very impressed with the trip up to this canyon. There are plenty of places to pull off to the side of the road to get out, explore a little bit, and take pictures of course! There are plenty of hikes you can go on, but it had been raining all week when I was there and the trails were extremely muddy so we had to turn around and come back. When we finally made it to the main lookout, there was a booth set up selling fruit, breads, and beverages. The fruit was already sliced and the papaya was amazing. This is a must see if you are visiting Kauai!

This is a must-see while on Kauai, but you may need to take a couple of cracks at it to avoid a clouded-in situation. Easy (but very windy) drive, but beware if you (or passengers) are prone to car-sickness. Best time to see is probably in the afternoon when sun is behind you and lighting up the east wall of the canyon (the road is up the west wall ridge). No need to join any tour to do this - you can drive yourself, and there are plenty of spots to get out and look - which you should do at each opportunity as you progress up the ridge.

This was like nothing I have ever seen, for a short walk up a few flights of stairs it was the most magnificent canyon view. Pictures don’t even begin to do it justice.

Words cannot adequately describe the beauty of this canyon. A must see when in Kauai. Only disappointing part was when we got to the top and it was completely encased in clouds. No view to see other than a wall of white that wouldn't disapate. We used the shaka guide audio tour and it was fabulous!
