“Request the spring water....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2012

Based on the reviews for this restaurant I was expecting a 4+ star experience - instead I've rated it a 3 star bordering on 2 1/2. The ambience of this restaurant is great. It's located within the Westin in Kaanapali. They ask if you'd like water and based on the bottles they pour it out of you think it wouldn't be tap water, but it is. You have to request spring water to get a purified non-pool smelling water (don't pay more for the spring/purified water!). The 'bread' consists of slim breadsticks with a pesto 'dip' and a butter with sea salt 'dip'. I wasn't impressed with either, neither was my daughter. The food was good, but very, very rich. Very small portion sizes. Minimal to no vegetables with the entrees. You had nothing to cut through the richness of the food (veg, bread, etc...). The Caesar's was whole heart of romaine leaves with dressing mixed in - so you might get the right amount of dressing on on leaf but a HUGE amount on the inside of a curved leaf.

Pros - ambience, service and my daughter really liked her spagetti and 'meatball'.

Cons - lack of bread to cut through the richness of the food, hostesses cared more of their personal life then addressing people waiting, tap water masked as something better, value.

Disclosures: Did not try the pizza! That might be really good.

“Wine tasting is wonderful....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2012

Make sure when you visit the Westin in Maui K'anapali to take advantage of the wine tasting on Monday nights. The sommelier is awesome and our waitress for the evening, Cynthia, was perfect. Great evening and thanks for the valuable information on a variety of amazing wines.

“Great Italian Cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2012

My wife and I had just arrived in Maui and looked for a nearby restaurant to eat dinner. We chose Pulehu Italian Grill. The restaurant was open to the hotel courtyard - very nice atmosphere. We had a salad and calamari appetizer. The salad was very good and the calamari was pretty good. Our entrees was excellent: Braised short ribs and lasagna. Our dessert was a warm fudge chocolate cake. All in all, very enjoyable dinner.

“Terrific Dining Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2012

I'd say this is the best restaurant along Kaanapali Beach. The food was delicious, service fantastic and a beautiful setting.

“Nice find in Westin vacation villa resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 March 2012

The best thing about Pulehu was the ambiance. Low level mood lighting, combined with open kitchen cooking set the stage for a nice meal. Though listed as Italian, I would think it to be a little more broad in their offerings. There were a few pizza suggestions and of course the build-your-own option, but I would not consider their pizza to be their best item. They had a variety of appetizers. We enjoyed the calamari. There were pasta dishes, seafood dishes, steaks, etc and grill specials. The prices were reasonable for the area and it was an easy drive from the Hyatt.

They even gave the kids pellets to feed the koi in the adjacent pond after dinner.

Directions: Drive down to Westin Vacation Villas at far north end of Ka'anapali Parkway. Park in the visitors level 2 parking garage and enter the building on the south side of the garage through an unmarked door.
