Disappointed!

Review of Royal Kahana
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 23, 2017via mobile
Very disappointed in this property. We booked this as part of a package, for 7 nights, and I should have done more research. Housekeeping and towel exchange was an additional fee, starting at $25/day, but our unit had a washing machine and dryer so could wash our own. Our unit was dirty, looks like black mould around the ceiling in the shower, and entire room had a very unpleasant odour that we couldn't get rid of. Staff wasn't very accommodating. Will not stay here again.

The apartments were great and had everything we needed, the only drawback was the location it was a little far out from everything so I would suggest hiring a car if staying here! However there are many shops and places to eat close by and our favourite was The Beach House just down the road! It was so relaxing and we enjoyed chilling by the pool and we loved having access to the beach!

Aloha Cizzy44,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We are happy you enjoyed yourselves here. Yes, we agree if you would like to see more of Maui a car would be a good idea. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

If you're just looking for somewhere with a clean, basic room with a good location, then this is a great hotel for your money. The rooms are a bit rundown, but that's pretty typical of budget Hawaiian hotel experiences. All the rooms are condo-style, so they're suites with a small kitchen, which is handy so you can save a bit of money on food (Maui food can be pricey!). There's free parking and no resort fees, although there is a mandatory cleaning fee at the end of your stay (they won't clean everyday, just at checkout), but that's standard for Maui it seems.

The beach is quite narrow so it's mainly good for looking at from your balcony (most rooms are ocean-facing) but there is a nice small pool with a BBQ. The nearest beaches are a couple mins drive away and there is a general store where you can pick up necessities within walking distance.

Definitely check out the 1st morning orientation! They go over excursions, island attractions and they give away free excursions! There was only a handful of groups at ours and everyone won something.

Royal Kahana is a decent and reasonable place to stay if you know Maui fairly well and don't need a lot of assistance. Wjhile the individuals Condo's are nice, the hotel operations seem to be stuck in 70's. Staff is not very friendly and not overly professional - so don't expect resort like service levels. The beach in front of the hotel is suffering from major erosion and there is some sort of restoration project underway - it looks like hell. There is a small pool with little in terms of food / snack offerings that closes mid-afternoon. There is no food service / restaurant so you have to go off property for meals. The lobby has no computers for guests to access. For supplies/meal you have to go to Lahaina, Kaanapali or Napili.

Room tip: The Beach in front of hotel is suffering from major erosion - there is a restoration project underway that visually looks like hell.

Aloha Loranzo,

Thank you for taking the time to provide a review of your stay. I have notified the management of your experience with the front desk staff. This is not typical as we get a lot of accolades so I am not sure why your experience was so different.

Mother nature and global warming are having sever impacts on all of Hawaii and being a north shore property, we do get a brunt of it. All of the properties on Kahana Beach are working on long term solutions to save what we have. Construction can be an eyesore and we are trying to make it as pleasing as possible.

We are glad you enjoyed your apartment as we are working hard with owners to make sure there units meets our standards.

Stayed here for 1 week and I found it just perfect for a family vacation. The property is very well maintained. The pool is very nice and there are plenty of bbq grills for everyone to use. The tiki torches at night set a perfect mood for a hawaii experience. Plenty of parking and beautiful ocean views. You will enjoy your stay here with the beach right behind the property.

Booked an ocean front condo bundled with airfare so I was not sure EXACTLY what condo I was getting so I was a little apprehensive. Boy was I surprised when they gave us the keys and took the elevator up to room 1212. The condo was bigger than expected. It was really late at night so I had no idea how close or how good our view would be but it sounded like you were standing on the beach. The next morning we could not believe what an incredible view we had. The condo itself had everything we needed to make breakfast, snacks and cocktails. Yes the furniture could use some updating but the bed was comfortable, linens clean with extras. Initially we thought it would be noisy since we were right off the elevator but we did not have any problems since we spent all our time on the private lanai. Air conditioning worked well. Bathroom small;water hot. We did not use the housekeeping services that were available for an extra fee as there was a broom/dust pan and basic cleaning supplies. Washer/dryer was an added perk as you can actually pack less clothes.I used it to wash our dirty clothes while getting ready to leave so I did not have to do laundry when I got home! Pool and BBQ area was cleaned every morning. Beach was small but nice with calm surf. Staff were extremely helpful. Travel desk in lobby.
Looked like a decent exercise room although we did not use it. Within walking distance to many restaurants and a convenience store that sells made to order sandwiches (whalers). We definitely would stay here again. Only drawback..Kahana is farther to travel for most of the touristy things you might be doing but we did not mind the driving at all and Lahaina had plenty to do.
