Just back from Hawaii, what a beautiful place it is. Pristine, clear blue/green waters, magnificent whales, green sea turtles, heaven on earth. So what a let down staying at Aston Kaanapali Shores was.
We were transferred from the airport to the hotel in a large bus that was too big to pull up at reception so we were dropped off on the side road and had to get all our bags to the concierge desk ourselves. You would think the hotel knowing the bus drops off guest is too big would have the times of arrival and ensure the concierge comes over to help with a trolley, so it was not a good start to our holiday. The reception staff couldn't even offer a smile and just wanted to get us processed and moved on.
Beware you are charged an extra US$10 per day "amenity fee" which was supposed to cover replenishment of in room tea/coffee, newspaper, use of safe, DVD's etc. You have NO choice but to pay this fee. Then if you have a rental vehicle you get charged just under US$10 per day to park.
Yes the room was two rooms, bedroom and lounge/kitchen with a balcony. It was clean and tidy, kitchen good, but it is dated. The furniture leaves a lot to be desired, very strange not appealing. At least it is spacious and does have a washing machine/dryer. Lousey pillows and the lighting throughout is a disgrace, especially in the dark bedrooms.
When we went up to our room, we were travelling with another couple and the request for rooms to be close was not met but can understand it would be hard to fulfill. Very disappointed our king size bed was not delivered upon even though it was noted as a selling point in our itinerary For the first 3 days I had to complain to reception that Clean towels were not left, trash not emptied, tea/coffee refills not left, when I rung housekeeping to inquire where the mugs were I was told in no uncertain terms to check the dishwasher as it may need to be emptied!!! Hello I am on holiday!! I will say on check out and a reminder to reception of all the issues we had they wrote off our US$10 daily charge which was appreciated.
If you do stay here across the road is a great supermarket for you to stock up on called Time Supermarket. Its great and sells heaps of tourist stuff, food, grog (very cheap). Java Jazz is a great restaurant near the supermarket and the food is really nice and fresh, they also have All day breakfast They have some good music going to, so don't forget to try this place out.
We also ate several times at the Beach Club restaurant within the property, nice food and good waiter service but they won't take bookings for parties under 6people or if you are classified a "home owner"???No idea why, as our money is just as green!!
For the size of this place the 2 pools are incredibly small, very surprised but then again I suppose you get what you pay for.
The little shop selling t-shirts, bits n pieces is very good, prices are very reasonable and was a nice surprise considering it being in-house, highly recommend a visit to the store.
Also the tour desk run by Expedia had very helpful staff who got us on several tours and helped the holiday get to another level. (Separate review on tours)
Hope to return to Maui again to appreciate the magnificent scenery, wildlife etc but would I return to Aston Kaanapali Shores, definitely not there are too many better choices out there

Room Tip: Go for Ocean Views or Ocean Front. We looked out to the North. Ground floor would be very noisy and lack privacy

After reviewing the ratings for this hotel and a great deal I decided to book. First thing I noticed was that the great deal isn't much of a great deal when they ding you an extra $10 resort fee and $9 parking fee per day. Other than the pool, tennis and spa, there aren't really any extra included amenities to justify the extra fee. The room was fantastic, clean and had it's own kitchenette. The downside is that the hotel is as if it was built in the middle of a parking lot. Not sure why this island can't figure out better transportation options but I'm not expecting to be surrounded by pavement when I'm vacation. The courtyard is nice, however, the beach is very disappointing and I'm surprised it is not captured in other reviews. There is very limited beach space, they seem to have develop the resort right to the water, not very eco friendly or enjoyable for a beach vacation. That being said, if you're just spending time in your room and exploring, as we did then this could be a good pick for the right price. The room was great and convenient to have a kitchen. If you want to be able to hang out at the beach right by your hotel, I'm sure there are better places that are worth the extra $$.

This was our second time staying here. The last time was about a year and a half ago. Last time was a great stay, this time was even better. This time my brother came with us. We were there for 10 days. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo ocean view on the the 9th floor. The room was very clean and comfortable. The room decor was modest. The view was great. My wife wished there were ceiling fans in the rooms and a exhaust fan in the bathroom. No big deal. The maid service was excellent, we always had clean towels and wash cloths and room was always cleaned. The staff was always very friendly and helpful!!! They gave us a bottle of wine for coming back, which we appreciated. The grounds were kept in great condition. The restaurant was good and priced avg. We had breakfast there everyday. We did eat lunch and dinner at different places based on want we were doing that day. It was always pleasant sitting by and swimming in the pool. The beach was nice, a little rocky, but you can walk a very short distance to a beach that is nicer. There is a grocey store, Subway, Pizza across the street. We did go to the grocery store when we were tired of eating out. We walked from the resort to Walers Village along the beach and there is a beach walk you can connect to a short distances from the resort. Again I would like to compliment the staff for the hospitality they showed and we will be back again in the future.

After their convincing photos on the website, we decided to book a studio for a 4 night stay. Our room, #349, was dark/depressing (windows in the room are about 6 inches high), dingy and in dire need of renovation (furniture looks like its going to fall apart, stains everywhere throughout carpet, no free outlets in bedroom to charge phone, rust on metal hinges, grout is black, etc). One of our towels had so many stains it looked like it hadn't been washed). We addressed our concerns to the front desk, but were suddenly "all booked" (despite our "upgrade" to this dingy and dark 1 bedroom) and had no other rooms for us to look at and change to until the next day at 12 pm (getting in the way of our Maui touring). Additionally, their website advertises a fitness center as part of their amenities (without the indication of extra cost as other services have), but upon check-in, we were informed it was a $5 per day charge. Additionally, the beach of this "beachfront" resort is about 4 feet wide. We are still currently at the resort and am curious as to how this will be handled tomorrow but needless to say, I am very disappointed especially because the pictures I saw on the website do not represent the room we got today.

I've stayed here with girlfriends and now alone. All I can say is it's location, amenities and pool are the best for the money. A lot of N00bs complain about the parking charge and gym charge, seriously? It's still a value for the money. At $146/night plus those extras...you're talking $160. Still a great value.

Across the street is Java Jazz and SoupNutz, same venue, different door. Great food, great coffee and the Times supermarket is solid to stock up for your kitchen here at the Aston. I'll be back (as always).

Room Tip: book a standard studio, they'll typically upgrade you with little or no charge.
