It was our first trip to Hawaii & the Kaanapali beach area is great for first time visitors. Aston Kanapali Shores is located at a pretty convinient location. There is a grocerry store right across the street, along with a dive shop & a copy center & a mexican cantina.
The hotel itself is very well kept, clean lawns, nicely decorated lobby area and small little waterfall and a small fish pond (fishes were missing).
We booked our trip through Costco and paid for a garden view but ended up getting what looked like a semi garden semi ocean view which was nice. We had a two bed room suite with a pull out sofa and a fully equiped kitchen plus washer - dryer.
The staff at the hotel is very friendly and helpful. There is resturant on location which we did not eat at but the pricing seemed reasonably priced.
$9 per day parking onsite plus pay per user internet stations are available.
Expedia has a Local Expert booth in this hotel which offeres free first morning breakfast along with tips for activities to do around the island.
We signed up for the Royal Lahaina Luau & the Molokini snorkeling trip through them which seems reasonablly priced.
If you go to Maui don't miss the early morning snorkeling trip to the Molokini crater.

Older rooms but comfortable and clean. Could use some updating. One restaurant on grounds but not the greatest. Small rocky beach but there are chairs on grass just above the ocean which are relaxing. A couple small stores. Covered parking. Would highly recommend having a rental vehicle for transportation. Island has lots to see but very little within walking distance. Pool areas we nice but smaller. Over all decent value for what you get.

My family and i took a trip back in November to Maui, we stayed 10 days total. We had a little issue with ants in one of the rooms, and since we had rented 2 rooms next to eachother the hotel went ahead and upgraded both rooms so we can be close. AWESOME SERVICE!!! I love the beach here, there may be rocks but the area is pretty much secluded so you dont have a bunch of people getting in the way. The staff is friendly, the hotel is beautiful, and im coming back again this year!

When traveling with a group, the rooms secured by the booking agent are often sketchy and budget-oriented. Not this place. This was an amazing hotel/condo right on the beach. While it is about 2 miles down the road from Kaanapali Beach, it has its own beach area, and had great access to shuttles to go to the other beach or Whalers Village. The suites were great - full kitchens, rich woodwork, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances. We would definitely come back!

We just returned from a wonderful vacation to Maui! We stayed at Kaanapali Shores for 8 nights- although we opted to rent it directly from the owner. We decided we didn't want to chance which room we would get.
The staff was incredible! Kudos to Michael the Security Guard!!! He was always there to take a picture, answer a question, or ask how you day was! I can't say enough about him and how great he is at taking pictures of families by the beach- or pool. Be sure to look him up when visiting Kaanapali Shores. BTW- Michael, my pics came out Fabulous!
The food was good and affordable and their drinks were tasty.
The ONLY negative part of our trip was our experience with Expedia and booking an excursion. The boat we booked was highly recommended by Expedia. We were not as pleased- the brochure they had was years old, and most of the information (including the picture of the boat) was not accurate. Just be sure to do your homework, all of the rest of our excursions (we booked ourselves) were super!
We will be back Kaanapali Shores, keep up the good work! The staff made the stay incredible- be sure to compliment them all~

I will say that the rooms were nice. The check in service was good. That is it! Their customer service was terrible! They lied about children staying, playing, and eating free. There is a $25 per child fee to participate in the children activities. Children do not eat breakfast or dinner free. They can eat free between the hours of 11a-4p. You have to pay to park at the hotel. You have to pay to use the fitness center. You have to pay to use tennis rackets. The beach at the resort is terrible once you get into the water. The beach is LOADED with rocks. These rocks hurt your feet! It is REALLY bad. The hotels to the left and right of you are the same way. The pool was ok, it could have been a little warmer. My dryer in my room broke and took two days to fix. The toliet clogged twice and the first response time was 40 plus minutes and the second time they came in about 20 minutes. The internet was very slow and shut down a few times during my stay. The water was turned off for 90 minutes while I was there. This happened right in the middle of my childs shower, so I had to use our drinking water to rinse her off. The hotel staff ergency was not there. The bellman were slow bringing your luggage to the room. Once I got back home, I was offered a big one night free stay at their resort(s)! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!? I live in the midwest. I'm gonna fly all the way to Maui and stay there for one night?!?!??! NOT WORTH MY TIME! STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE PEOPLE.

Clearly this is a case of a misunderstanding of what is offered at the resort. Our website clearly defines how these programs work. There is no deception involved. When guests arrive, they are provided with a coupon book that features free meal deals (eat), free activity deals at top attractions (play) and unlike some hotels, there is no additional (extra person) charge for kids within our accommodations. Our "Kids" promotion does not specify that kids eat "every" meal free. It states "choose from our Kids eat free menu valid between 11:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. daily." The activities this guest refers to is Camp Kaa'anapli, which is not a part of the promotion. There is a one-time cost of $25, which includes a T-shirt. It's the best "camp" deal in town.

Unlike resorts that charge a "mandatory" Daily Services Fee (and hide the charges for parking, fitness centers, sports equipment, etc. within it), at Ka'anapali Shores, we choose to let our guests pick and pay for only those services they "choose" to want to take advantage of. In short, we believe in choices. Also, all of our literature is clear that these are fee services, so this should not come as a surprise.

Our beach is enjoyed by literally thousands each month, boasting one of the best snorkeling/diving reefs in Ka'anapali. It is not uncommon to see turtles, octopus and all kinds of bright, colorful tropical fish. There are also areas to swim without rocks just steps away. We have a very substantial "return" guest loyalty for a reason!

We did not feel that any offer of compensation was warranted in this case based upon our clear policies and pricing structures, but offered one up as a gesture of goodwill in the spirit of "Aloha" for which we are known. And no, the expectation was not that these guests would fly to Maui for one night. Rather we hope to have them come back to Maui for 5 - 7 nights, at which point we would have been pleased to initiate the credit. As you can see by our overall ratings, the resort is consistently enjoyed by all, as is the "Aloha" spirit exhibited by the staff.

Mahalo.

We stayed here for 6 nights in a 2 bed/2 bath condo. Coming from a 1 room suite in Oahu, this felt like heaven. We had an ocean view condo, but were right next to the ocean front rooms. The place couldn't have been more perfect for us. We seem to spend a lot of money on bottled water while on vacation, so were pleasantly surprised to have a fridge with water and ice maker in the door! Also got $100 to spend at the on-site restaurant that was a part of our Funjet package. We found the beach a little less rocky and less wavey south of the property which was about a 5 minute walk (less crowded too). My husband, who is a runner, found a path between the beach and hotels which was nice. Across the street is a coffee shop, Subway and a couple other restaurants in addition to the grocery store. This resort exceeded my expectations. I would have no trouble recommending it to anyone.
