“Without a doubt the best place to stay on Maui”
Reviewed 22 March 2012

We spent 6 nights here in February 2012. For the price you will not find better accommodation on Maui. The quality of the room, the friendliness of the staff, the relaxed laid back attitude, the helpful travel advice plus the location make this the place to holiday in Maui. When we had to deal with some urgent family business back home in Australia, Tanna was so very generous, allowing us full use of her office so we could access computer, printer etc. Another great advantage of the Maui Guest House is the use of free wi fi. And did we mention the sumptuous breakfast? We highly recommend this B and B. You will not be disappointed.

My wife and I had the wonderful opportunity to spend 7 nights at the Maui Guest House in early March, 2012. From when we arrived, until we left, we were treated like family!

Arriving on Maui on a mid-day flight from Kauai, after record breaking rains on Kauai, we were really looking for a great place to stay. Our Budget car rental rental agent recommended "da Kitchen" for late lunch. It was really great. Probably could have shared our meal. da-kitchen.com

We drove the approximately 45 minutes to Lahaina, being amazed at each of the vistas as we headed up the winding highway towards Lahaina. We easily found The Maul Guest House, parked our brand new (6 miles on it) rental 2 door Rangler and went inside. We were warmly welcomed, including a cold drink. We were given the full tour of the guest house; from our well equipped room (salt water Jacuzzi, good sided shower, well equipped bath (full size bath bars of soap). Our unit even had an exterior door so we wouldn't have to walk thru the house. There was plenty of storage, desk space and an extra bed which became our space to put our junk. Great drawer space, 42" TV and DVD in the room. Plenty of overhead light (the stained glass windows sort of made the room dark, but the non-natural light more than covered for the lack of natural light thru the windows. The room could use a comfortable reading chair, but there was seating in both living rooms where you could go and relax. The linens were quality (pleanty of extra linems on the shelf in the room) (each room had a different color towel / sheets so that they knew which needed washing first). The queen size bed was very comfortable, but the wooded edge of the platform was a little difficult getting used to.

Free "quality" beach chairs (Tommy Bahama), beach matts and multiple beach towels, use of the laundry (between 1 and 7 pm), and full use of the kitchen were both welcome additions. The is a smallish pool, with plenty of outdoor sitting, a good gas grill (which we used one night to cook a steak.

The crazy state laws limiting the actual cooking of a hot breakfast by the owner of a B&B is stupid (the restaurant lobby must have something going with the elected officials). However, the guests at MGH were able to use the kitchen and cook an egg or use it from 7:30 am to 9 pm any day. The fruit offerings at Breakfast were great, VERY fresh.

The common areas included comfortable seating, multiple games and puzzles and a guest house computer with internet access. Also, free wireless in the house and around the pool deck. Free long distance calls anywhere are also available. Wireless worked well. Our room at times dropped the wireless so I would have to go and re-establish connection by opening our room door.

MGH does a wonderful job of trying to make their guests feel like family. Tanna (the ower), Barbara and Amanada were a wealth of information to make our stay most enjoyable: from restaurant recommendations, beach recommendations, and recommendations on day trips, it was like having a full-time cruise director along with us. The staff was there when needed but they kept their distance (they didn't hover). You are given a number to call 24 hours a day if you need anything!

I didn't mention how impressed we were with how clean the MGH and our room/bath were. You could eat off the floor. The Maui Guest House is close to multiple wonderful beaches and shopping and restaurants.

We would definitely stay again at the Maui Guest House. Thank you Tanna, Amanda, and Barbara for making our stay so enjoyable. Send any questions our way to b.amsbary@rcn.com

If you are looking for friendly staff, a comfortable, clean, attractive room, and quiet neighborhood, look no further. We traveled to Maui for a conference at one of the resort hotels in Ka'anapali beach, but stayed at this B and B in the north end of residential Lahaina which turned out to be perfect location for accessing the conference as well as the many laid back, unpretentious restaurants in Lahaina. The staff is attentive to every need and allows their guests full access to the modern kitchen and laundry facilities. If you require cleanliness, this is the place for you. It is impeccable. We have no reservations about the Maui Guest House and would consider going back to Maui just to have another chance to stay there again.

The Maui Guesthouse is close to everything and yet far enough away to call it home! My wife and I stayed six nights and felt very welcomed by Barbara, Tanna, and Amanda. We baked cookies, another couple grilled, and two other residents were our shopping experts. The B &B is two blocks from highway 30, about five minutes from “Front Street” – great shopping and activities. We felt like we were staying with our family and friends for the duration of our visit. This was our first time to Maui. We will stay at The Maui Guesthouse from now on and cannot wait to return! Tanna is very informative, friendly, and can put a puzzle together like now one else. The Maui Guesthouse is a real diamond to be enjoyed by all – Thanks for making our first trip to Maui so memorable! Richard Schultz, PhD(c) and Cheryl Schultz.

We just spent 10 nights at the Maui Guest House and we completely enjoyed our stay. The staff was wonderful! Our room was nice, quiet and very clean. It was wonderful to have access to the kitchen and laundry....when we left it was like saying goodbye to family (that you enjoy visiting)! Can't wait to go back....

We stayed 3 nights and then came back at the end of our trip. The B&B was lovely, great room and bath- comfortable, clean and perfect. We never had time to use the jacuzzi in our room, but it was there for us ready to go. Tanna does a great job. Breakfast was there for us even when we had to leave a little after six. There were beach towels to take with us as well as coolers. A washer and dryer which came in very handy. We drove the road to Hana and there was a CD to take with us to orientate us along the way. She pointed us in the right direction for dinners and was font of knowledge. The last night we came back late and showered in the guest bath before leaving for the airport Would I recommend her place- oh yes! The only reason I didn't give it excellent was the breakfast could use a little boost and it would be great to have cookies or something when you come in after a day of activities.

Room Tip: I am going to guess any room will be special

My husband and I stayed at the Maui Guest House for eight days from 02-28 to 03-01-12. Our room was always immaculate and so was the whole place. We had access to a great kitchen and the owner certainly knew her stuff when it came to snorkel gear (which they had tons of). Our room also had a salt water jacuzzi, which is one of the reasons I picked Maui Guest House. Being a holistic practitioner, I don't get into anything that has chlorine, so I really appreciate having that in my room and a pool outside with the same. Also, the drinking water was filtered, so that was fantastic. Oh, and every morning, there was this great array of fresh fruit on the table to partake in. I would stay there again, and I highly recommend staying here if you are in the area.

Room Tip: Pick the first room by the front door. It's beautiful and so is the stained glass.
