“Not enough vacation time”

We had a wonderful time in Molokai and enjoyed our stay in Molokai Shores #330. The worst part about it was that we could only stay for 7 nights.
If you are looking for a place to get away from the crowds and REALLY relax, this is the place. The décor is awesome and you find that most of the amenities that you will need, are included. The gorgeous view off the balcony never got old. One review mentioned that there really wasn’t much of a beach, but there is plenty of beach to stroll down with your morning cup of coffee and ease into your day. The central location meant easy access to everything on the island. The main town of Kuanakakai is only minutes away. There you will find places like the ‘Friendly Food Market’ for groceries, several restaurants including Molokai Burger, Paddler’s Inn and Dave’s Ice Cream. If you want to go snorkeling, scuba diving or fishing, the friendly folks at Molokai Fish & Dive can help you make those arrangements. I highly recommend visiting Phillip at Molokai Bicycle, and renting a bike or two, and spend some time taking a slow ride around Molokai (he’s also a very good source of local information) We did the late night fresh bread pick up in the alley behind Kanemitsu's Bakery, which was interesting. On Friday night, make the short drive to Hotel Molakai and take in the sweet sounds of the island elders strumming their yukeles and signing traditional Hawaiin songs. On Saturdays there is an open market where you can buy jewelry, souvenirs, baked goods and produce. You can also drive out near the airport and visit Kumu Farms for fresh, organic produce. Then travel a short distance to get island-grown coffee at Molokai Coffee. On Sunday, visit your favorite beach and relax, because Molokai is closed on Sundays.
For activities, we attempted to visit all of the beaches, hiked to the Kalaupapa overlook and visited the phallic rock. Swam at Murphy’s and Dixie Maru beaches and took a stroll down Papohaku beach (2.8 miles long) We snorkeled outside the barrier reef and saw numerous fish, sea turtles and dolphins with Captain Tim and First Mate Gabe from Molokai Fish & Dive. We hiked to the falls in Halawa Valley and took an invigorating swim in the pool beneath the falls.
Most evenings ended with us cooking a home cooked meal in the well-equipped kitchen. Then dining with a glass of wine, or a cold beer, while watching a glorious sunset from the balcony of Chad’s wonderful condominium. We will definitely be back….the sooner the better.
Like the sign at the airport says “Aloha, Slow Down, This is Molokai”
Thanks Chad

“Looks like the pictures!”
Reviewed October 22, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

This place is redone, top to bottom, and it is as lovely as the pictures show. I have not always had that experience with vacation rentals. Nicely appointed with just about everything you would need with the exception of a box of tissues and shower soap. Super clean. As others have said, Chad was easy to work with and everything was emailed to me promptly (also not the always the norm). We spent most of our time on the beautiful lanai overlooking the ocean. It is within minutes of town (i.e. restaurants) and also about one minute from the Hotel Molokai, which also serves appetizers and has a waterfront bar. Very convenient.

That being said, there are a few things to be aware of. First off, it is hot. No accommodation in Molokai has A/C so this is an issue no matter where you stay. There are overhead fans and free standing fans as well, but even so the unit was broiling during the day. Because you must leave doors and windows open to the breeze, you will hear the neighbors and their annoying television set, which was on practically all the time. We had some initial issues getting things like lights and overhead fans to turn on. Be sure to read the "owner's manual" located under the coffee table. This helped us figure out how to turn most everything on, although we never could get the master bedroom bedside lights to work.

Overall we liked the unit and the location, and would recommend it.

“Best place on Molokai!”
Reviewed July 12, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

I rented this condo at the last minute to go to a family reunion on Molokai. The manager was very responsive and sent the contract immediately. I was delighted when I arrived - it was immaculate, completely upgraded, had a fantastic ocean view, and new bedding and towels. The complex is very nice with a large, well maintained pool. It was priced less than the nearby, old hotel was charging for a garden view - so it was a great value! Highly recommended!

This was a great place to stay. The condo is very well equipped with a great location. The only negative thing was the loft bedroom was pretty hot. There are fans, but no windows up there, so you don"t get good airflow like the downstairs bedroom. We liked staying close to town. We enjoyed eating at the small restaurants that served ethnic foods; we recommend being adventurous when ordering!' Molokai is a very quiet island, no crowds anywhere. Nice!

“Molokai mellow - great location to enjoy a fabulous island”

Molokai Shores is located close to the only real town on the island - super convenient. Chad's condo is exactly as advertised, a good value - clean, well laid out, GREAT view, easy to work with... very responsive to our inquiries... it is useful to know that the beaches on this part of the island are really non-existent, so if looking for a location on/near the best beaches pick the East or West end of Molokai, thus giving up the convenience of being within easy walking distance of town... appreciated that the condo included boogie boards, snorkel gear, chairs, etc... the island, however, is the real treat - NO stoplights on the entire island says it all, the only place that is truly "old school" Hawaiian. What people say about how friendly the locals are is also spot on, we detected no "bad vibes" re: being haole - everywhere we went the locals were incredibly open, friendly and warm.
Would go back in a heart beat!

“Beautiful Condominium”

We had the pleasure to stay in Chad’s condo at Molokai Shores unit #330 for twelve days this month (Jan. 2013) for our 25th wedding anniversary. Chad was very easy to work with during the whole process. He answered immediately any questions I had before our stay. Instructions were sent prior to our arrival as to checking in and he had plenty of information in the condo about the complex and things to do in Molokai.

The condo was very clean and decorated immaculately with high end furniture. There is a king size bed downstairs and a queen size bed in the loft bedroom. We chose to sleep upstairs in the loft bedroom because to us, it was quieter. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen had all the necessary pots & pans, dishes, etc. needed to cook if you choose to do so. There were beach towels, beach chairs and a cooler which was nice to have when going to the beaches.

The view was absolutely beautiful. Waking up to seeing the ocean right outside was wonderful. We saw whales out front (you will need binoculars, which we brought), the ferry coming and going to Maui and cargo ships.

We went fishing with Hallelujah Hoe Fishing and caught some beautiful fish that we cooked that evening. Captain Clay knows his “stuff”. We caught all the fish we needed within two hours and started whale watching. We got in a pod of whales (5) that we followed for about an hour. That was a real treat.

We also did everything else that you will read about to do with the exception of the mule ride. We just decided to pass on it because of the switchbacks on the trail and the height.

All in all, we loved Molokai, Chad’s condominium and the people of Molokai. We want to return in the future and hope to stay in the beautiful condo again. Thank you Chad!!

If you've set your heart on Molokai and prefer a condo rather than the limited hotel options, this is clearly a superb option for your stay. The location is central to the island and the amenities are top-notch. Our trip to Molokai was a surprise visit for my wife's birthday, and the was in awe of this condo, the decor and the grounds of Molokai Shores. After each days exploration of Molokai (remote beaches, jeep trails, Kalaupapa mule ride and Aloha Fridays at Hula Shores) we looked forward to the evenings to retire to this luxurious condo.

There were no issues with the rental process or the condo during our stay and the owner/agent was very personable and a pleasure to deal with.
