If you're looking for a relaxing get-away right on the beach , like your privacy and peace and quiet , this cottage can't be beat ! It comes with everything you might need and more , we can't honestly think of anything that we'd change . Short drive to the Halawa Valley beach park , not to be missed ... and not far from the main town Kaunakakai , for shopping and restaurants etc. We did a lot of whale watching from the deck and the beach , and had a totally amazing time there . Hope to make a return visit , maybe longer next time !!

Hands down the best customer service and vacation rental experience from Leslie Dunbar for Pauwalu Cottage to celebrate our birthdays. Her email instructions accurately prepared us for the limited resources on the island which is proud to boast there are no stop lights-it's that small and laid back. The cottage location at Kaunakaki (check the view on GoogleEarth) was ideal for our daily snorkeling excursions or hikes with minimal driving from Pauwalu. The perfect size for two travelers and all our gear. Queen size bedroom faces the ocean and the twin bedroom faces the garden and hedge-covered highway with minimal traffic, 4 cars a day was the average. There's only one car rental agency, reserve as soon as you know you are going as they have a limited number. No problems with the internet, tv or cell phone service. A real plus having a washer/dryer onsite. So far, this is the only vacation rental I would again make the extra effort to enjoy. Only 2 flights or 1 ferry option from Maui daily. Smooth ocean most days to safely float inside the fish pond during high tide. Easy to swim and snorkel along the crescent-shaped beach with seashell delights each morning as you stroll with your Hawaiian coffee. Don't miss market day, go early as the Bread Man sells out early! If you plan on cooking, there is a unique selection of local spices in several of the shops, expensive but very worthy gifts from the local Salt Mistress. Best island keepsake ever: mailing home a coconut from the local post office that you're encouraged to decorate before mailing---they even provide the markers!!! We are anxious to return for the solitude and peacefulness of Pauwalu again. Thank you Dunbar family for sharing your ocean cottage with us.

Liked best: Private beach, fresh flowers, a very clean cottage, thick bath towels, and the washer/dryer. Totally safe location with memorable views and evening breeze.
Liked least: Espresso pot and bbq grill would have been nice amenities. Yard lounger needed as tiny beach craps can pinch! Beds very comfortable but nicer linens, pillow and spread would have made the bedrooms more inviting.

“Quiet, east-end Molokai, beautiful, private, sunrise over Maui, sunset over Lana'i.”

Absolutely loved it. My wife, ditto. Beautiful, clean, private, beachfront .... and you meet the greatest people - close to Halawa valley, 20-mile beach, sunrise over Mau'i. Kip Dunbar built it himself, with all the touches of a serious craftsman. Cathedral living room, hardwood floors, and more and more and more. Wifi, complete kitchen, room for four - we celebrated our 10th anniversary and could not have been more content, or better situated for a lovely time -
call Eddie Tanaka for a Halawa valley hike, Walter Naki for a north-shore tour and ocean fishing. If you want Wai-ki-ki and nightlife, this is not for you ... if you want Hawa'ii, call'em.

“Great location; quaint cottage”

We loved the cute cottage--right on the water with its own little beach. It is about a 30-minute drive into the nearest town but there is a small "goods" store with a lunch counter about 10 minutes away. There is a small hibachi but you'll need to take your own charcoal, lighter fluid and matches. Washer and dryer are outside the house. There is no air conditioner so it gets quite hot inside the cottage, even with the ceiling fan and open windows. I would recommend to the owners that they provide an additional floor fan. One bedroom has twin beds and the other a double bed. The mattress on the double bed was very soft and uncomfortable because you kept rolling towards the center. This being said, we would recommend the cottage if you are looking for an out-of-the-way accommodation.

We've been traveling to Hawaii for many years. Typically once or twice a year. We usually stay on Kauai or the Big Island, but we are always searching for the perfect Hawaii vacation. We found it at the Pauwalu cottage. The house is beautiful. The location is spectacular, and most importantly for us, there is very little to do beside enjoy the beauty. You know when you spend your time wondering what it would cost to buy the cottage, you like the property. Molokai is the perfect place to escape tourist Hawaii, the people are wonderful and proud of their island. What can i say, we just loved this.

We loved our stay at this cottage. Our beach directly in front of the cottage was part of the historic fish ponds and seemed like it was ours alone. It was very private and so very lovely. We enjoyed immensely the sunrises on our beach and the net fishermen just outside of the fish pond. The cottage itself was so charming and comfortable. It felt like chiming home each day we returned to it. Read the guest log and you will see how EVERYONE loves this place.

for the perfect romantic getaway! LIght, airy, comfortable accommodation. Charming, secluded beach with ancient Hawaiian fish pond. Beautiful view of Maui and Lanai. Birds singing, waves gently lapping at the shore. Sunny days and refreshing rainy nights. Handily located between Kuanakakai town and the Halawa Valley. Small, pristine beaches in either direction. Daily shopping at a delightful little shop two miles away. I would recommend two weeks, but take any occasion you can to enjoy this lovely place. Aloha!
