We stayed here for a week and loved it! Wanted a quiet and private setting with a gorgeous view, in a home that was clean and had modern conveniences (wifi, washer/dryer) while still preserving that essence of rustic charm. The cottage is an historic building with a large private lawn, patio, porch and gardens. It is a serene place that has a well-equipped kitchen and lots of interior light. The location is an easy walk into the village center (via the Shore Path or sidewalks), so you don't have to hassle with finding a parking space in town on a busy summer day. It's also just off of Highway 3, so easy access to the main roads that take you to Acadia National Park or just sightseeing the harbor towns and mountain views that abound here. A few of our favorite places were for food (Thurston's Lobster Pound in Bernard, Burning Tree in Otter Creek) and recreation (canoe rental on Long Pond, swimming at Echo Lake, bike riding from Seawall to Bass Harbor Lighthouse). The cottage has many trees one one side, which are home to a variety of birds - if you sleep with your windows open, you are wakened by birdsong each morning. Heavenly!
Briar Lodge is unbelievable treat. The home is perfect for our family of 5. Everything you need. The view and grounds are the true star on this property. The Historic home is very very enjoyable. Being in a home that has such amazing views and still in town to Bar Harbor is not readily available. The property and the privacy you get, living on this historic cottage location can not be enjoyed everyday. You HAVE to stay here! It will hold memories forever.
