This was a remarkable motel.
You can see the owners and staff have pride of ownership.
My room looked as if it was brand new, the pool was clean and looked it was just built.
Did not see the staff much, you had to ring a bell to get them at the front desk, but you have to realize it is a small motel.
I will stay here again.
This motel is close to Bar Harbor, and is walking distance to a good restaurant for breakfast. Other restaurants in walking distance too, but we didn't try those. Only stayed one night. The owner checked us in and was friendly and efficient. We stayed towards the back and didn't have any trouble with traffic noise like others have posted. Couple of tour buses here but didn't seem crowded. We didn't have kids with us, but there is a nice large grassy area which would be great for kids to run and play. Great value for a basic motel. Very clean.
My husband and I did a 12 day road trip from Boston to New Hampshire, Vermont and Bar Harbor Maine. I made reservations for 3 nights at the High Seas. This place is so quaint and pleasant, from the staff to the accommodations. Having read previous reviews about possible road noise, I asked for a room in the back away from traffic. It was great. The rooms are a decent size. We had a queen bed, small table with 2 chairs, nightstand and big dresser. The motel is old, but the owners keep it exceptionally clean! I wish some of the big chain hotels were this clean. There is a small laundry facility that I used once. You can purchase detergent for $1. The location is so perfect, only 2 miles from Acadia National Park entrance. With the location and park being open 24 hours, we went to the park morning, sunset and night. In between we came back to the room to refresh and to go out to eat. There are a few restaurants close by. All I know is
Bar Harbor Maine was the highlight of our trip and when we come back, we will stay at the High Seas!
We just stayed 4 nights at the High Seas Motel and couldn't be happier, when we were planning our trip we knew that one of the major chains was out primarily because of price and we would rather support independent establishments so we were trying to decide between one of the cottage properties or a motel. I did read one review that this property is family owned and I feel good supporting a local family rather than putting some more money into a large company. The location, reviews and price of the High Seas won...we paid $75 a night in early September after labor day.
This property is a great location right on Route 3, about 5 minutes from the entrance to Acadia and 10 minutes to downtown Bar Harbor. It is set back from the road so we really did not hear any road noise and there is a large parking lot. The sign said no vacancy but we never had trouble getting a spot right outside our room or even really saw any other people.
We only interacted with staff for check in and check out, upon check in we had the option to do everything then so when we left all we had to do was leave our key in the drop slot or the basket, we weren't sure if we may extend for another night so it was left open ended. Check out was very fast and easy though so it was no problem.
Like many of the properties this is an older motel, someone in a store told us that decades ago the High Seas was the cream of the crop. You can tell that it's an older property but it seems like the rooms have been updated fairly recently, the bathrooms seemed brand new and the carpet and bedding seemed new and very clean. The bed was very comfy. Shower had plenty of very hot water and the bathroom is huge. I did love that we were given an actual room key instead of the traditional swipe card, it made it seem even more retro and quaint. There were plenty of towels in the bathroom, a few small bars of soap and a shower mounted shampoo/body wash that smelled great..it reminded me of a raspberry or blueberry scent. Housekeeping did a great job and our room always smelled like cleaning products when we returned. The rooms have wall mounted newer flat panel TV's and a refrigerator. There are no in-room microwaves but there is a vending area with a microwave, soda & snack machine as well as free coffee & tea from 6-10 in the morning. There is also an ice machine right outside the vending room which has a note of it to not fill large coolers but we had a small 6-pack sized cooler that we put some in so we had cold drinks during the day when we were in Acadia. WiFi signal was great, we were able to do normal web browsing through things like social media, e-mail and yelp but were also able to watch youtube with no problems, we were right by the office in room 29 so I'm not sure how it is through the further rooms on property. Be aware that there are very few wall outlets and between cell phones, camera batteries, electronic cigarette, etc. we did have to switch stuff up....I would bring a small power strip if I stayed here again. We did not use the heater but the air conditioner is just a typical small window mount type unit and cooled the room but not super cold like we tend to like it, however it was cool in the evenings so we did leave the windows open a few nights.
The back of the property has a traditional motel type building but we were right by the office in a room that seemed more like a cottage with a nice deck with a table and some chairs.
The property has a heated pool but unfortunately the last day for the pool was the day before we arrived so we didn't get to utilize it. There was also a few little seating areas around the property.
Great property that is super close to everything! I would return here and highly recommend it!
We stayed for three nights while visiting Acadia and Bar Harbor. The room was small but we enjoyed our stay, nonetheless. The bathroom was tiny but served it's purpose. The sink was outside the bathroom. The bed was fairly comfortable. The AC worked well. The flat screen TV was adequate. There were 2 comfortable chairs as well as a small table with 2 wooden chairs. There was a refrigerator but no microwave. The location was 4 miles from downtown and 2 miles from Hulls Cove Visitor Center.
