Fantastic central hotel. Room was large enough for the two of us (twin room) so that we were not falling over each other, the beds were comfortable and with the lovely views of the square and the sound of the man playing the trumpet of an evening we had a brilliant stay. Complimentary tea, coffee and fresh cookies are available 24 hrs (due to jet lag I was a regular visitor at 4am) if the coffee and water isn't hot enough go and spend your money in a Starbucks.
My stay was to celebrate my birthday and we arrived to a lovely chilled bottle of sparkling wine, glasses and gift in the room, a really nice touch (as was the jar of sweets).
For breakfast the hotel is cheaper than Sears up the road and just as tasty.
All in all a brilliant hotel which we would stay at again and recommend to others.

Room Tip: Contact the hotel if you have any special request, i.e. If you want a refrigerator in you room, a room on an upper floor, etc and they are more than happy to accommodate your request if possible.

Whenever we visit San Francisco we stay at The Chancellor. Its location is excellent, on Powell Street right at Union Square. Wonderful restaurants are nearby, shopping is literally across the street, and the cable car stops right outside the door. The hotel glories in its history, and maintains a decor reminiscent of a gentler time. The rooms tend to be on the small side, but only in comparison with the huge rooms offered by some of the big chains: we find the rooms cozy and intimate, but certainly with room easily to accommodate two 26" suitcases and carry-ons in the spacious closet. The hotel is perfectly clean and neat, and staff are warm, friendly, knowledgeable, professional and very helpful. It's one of our favorite places to stay.

Stayed here last year for the SF marathon (I know I know , a little belated) and was very happy with the location and quality. Keep in mind that during the summer, SF can be very pricey so this hotel does provide a decent value. Parking is two minutes away in a garage and tons of restaurants all around for almost any kind of meal. Hotel also provides snacks in the lobby for guests to munch on. And fairly typical of the area, the building is a little old so the elevators are slow. Rooms are small but adequate.

Wow, I was not disappointed for choosing this hotel. Fantastic locstion but quiet. Great staff, brill amenities, great little extras in room like sweets, umbrellas, pillow menu. Free tea/coffee all day. Nice restaurant attached. Rory on reception is brill! No a/c but fans in room, and windows do open so you can keep cool. Close to all transport and not up too steep a hill. Recommend this to all.

Room Tip: For a really quiet room, choose the back of the hotel.

We just returned from our 6 night stay at the Chancellor Hotel. What a wonderful gem in the city! From the time we made our reservations to check out, we had nothing but exceptional service. A special thanks to Nate in reservations. His kindness in helping us with our reservations and even during our stay there. He gave us great recommendations and always friendly! The rooms were clean, the location perfect and we would definately be returning! Thanks again Chancellor Hotel!
