Owner description: The world’s only aquarium-planetarium-rainforest-living museum. Come nose-to-beak with penguins and parrots, watch sharks and sting rays cruise beneath your feet, and feel the spray of the California coast. Fly to Mars (and beyond the Milky Way!) from the safety of your planetarium seat, take a virtual safari in African Hall, or climb into the canopy of a living rainforest. Face your fears—and an albino alligator—inside the Swamp, and meet scientists as they return from research expeditions around the world. From the depths of a Philippine coral reef to the outer reaches of the Universe, it's all inside the California Academy of Sciences.

This museum combines many different activities: natural history, aquarium, planetarium. Museum is one of the eligible activities in the Go Card Explorer Pass. We enjoyed the planetarium show which is included in the admission price.

I spent several hours exploring this wonderful attraction. I enjoyed the planetarium and watched the presentation there, experienced the feeling of what being in two different San Francisco earthquakes would have felt like in the earthquake exhibit, and spent over an hour in the rain forest enjoying the amazing assortment of birds and butterflies. The docents are knowledgeable, friendly and assist in planning your visit as to not miss anything of your interests.

Who would of thought that the Academy of Sciences would have such a great aquarium!! They have sooooo many tanks and a whole ecosystem that connects it to there rainforest above. This place is fun for all ages!! They have penguins, an albino alligator, tons of fish, jellyfish, birds, bugs, and a ton of beautiful butterflies in the rainforest exhibit!! This place is a must see for anyone that loves fish!! They also have a living roof which is also an amazing site to see!! I don’t know why there isn’t more living roofs all over the world!!

Wow! California Academy of Sciences is exceptional. I learned a lot about science, the environment and lots of species. I particularly loved the rainforest exhibit. Great for all ages.

Adult female met female friend to go out sightseeing SF (did NOT want to shop). Rainy Day. Major damper on plans. Suggested Calif. Academy of Sciences. Had an awesome time. Why? Yes, it was $35/person roughly, but it was entertaining. Started in the "rainforest" where I saw live butterflies flying all around me and learned about the varied temper climates and its animals in the habitat. Went down below to the "oceans" or water creatures. Talked to many of the education docents who, I found out, switch out every hour to "keep things fresh" for both the docents and the visitors. They were so friendly and enthusiastic no matter what section they were in. All look like retired teachers who still want to give back to their community.

If you have young ones, this place has a play area to allow them interact with other kids, play with blocks, or crawl around on the synthetic indoor lawn. For dads who just need time to chill with the infant, this place is perfect for them to feed the kids, while Mom enjoys a show in the planetarium! After couple hours in here, we could have eaten in the big eating area, but instead left to go to a nearby brunch restaurant. Btw, parking is hard to find in the park -- we were there on a very rainy day at the opening of the museum and the free 4-hour parking was filled everywhere. So we paid the $10 for two hours. Was covered, just under the museum parking. Totally worth it for us girls!
